I’ve reviewed countless games here on The iPhone App Review, and no matter how fun a game turns out to be, I always have to put it down in order to write a review.

Totem Rush is an top-notch innovative game that combines multiple elements into one fun adventure and much, much more.

Created by Andrey Pryakhin, this fun and unique strategy game for iPhone and iPad combines entertaining game genres such as strategy and role playing to keep things very interesting.

Concept and Gameplay:

Totem Rush is a game that’s incredibly difficult to stop playing, and I found myself picking my iPhone up occasionally just to recruit a few more characters and battle other players.

If you’ve played match games like Bejeweled and Candy Crush, you’re already familiar with how Totem Rush works. The game has a match-based element, as well as role playing concepts like building up a town from scratch.

Simply swipe your finger to match similar color totems, destroying them and damaging obstructions to complete objectives.

This mix-up of game genres is fantastic because it allows players to explore the game however they want. Graphics are great, the interface is easy to understand, and sound effects really add to the Caribbean atmosphere.

Totem Rush guides new players via a helpful tutorial, but the game is pretty easy to understand once you play for awhile. There’s a ton of content to grasp, so be sure to take your time when playing.

Did I mention Totem Rush is basically two different games in one? The best part is you’re not really forced to play one way or the other.

If you’re aggressive, you can battle other players for loot and resources to build your town into a bustling Caribbean community.

On the other hand, if you’d rather explore, you can play through levels and rescue characters while attaining high scores and bragging rights.

Totem Rush does have a time-based element to it, and you can upgrade your island buildings to make your oasis even stronger. Buildings take time to place and upgrade, but you can spend gems to complete them instantly if you want.

Totem Rush is available to download from the App Store for free and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad.

You can purchase crystals for time boosts and other assorted power-ups, but I don’t think that would classify Totem Rush as a “pay to win” game.

Personally I think it’s very relaxing and fun to play, so you can do so at your own pace. Plus, as an added bonus, Android users can share in the fun by downloading the game from the Google Play Store.

Overall I highly recommend downloading Totem Rush if you’re looking for a fun and free game to pass the time.
