Scattergories is the official app of the popular board game and more fun than ever.
Play it at your next party or the next time some friends stop by. You can even challenge your Facebook friends or some random opponents.
Anyone already familiar with the popular group board game “Scattergories” will be excited about this app being freely available on their iOS devices from Magmic Inc.
Currently, players can connect their Scattergories app account to their Facebook account to find other friends who are also using the app, or they can choose to play random opponents as well.
Playing Scattergories without connecting to your Facebook account is also a possibility. Like the boardgame, the idea for this game is to be able to think up creative answers in specific categories with all answers starting with a pre-designated letter.
Games are run in only 90 second intervals, so they go by very quickly. Slight misspellings are assumed to be typos and allowed to generate points for your overall score, and you’re also allowed to dispute any answers that you feel were unfairly rejected.
However, there does not appear to currently be a method to dispute the answers that you feel were incorrectly accepted (such as your opponent’s answers), which could be frustrating. I also felt like I kept getting the same starting letters with this Scattergories app–an issue that can become pretty frustrating if you want to play this app for any length of time.
Appearance and Layout:
Overall, I was very pleased with both the appearance and the layout of this app. In-app colors are all bright and cheery, playing well with the mood of the app.
Fonts are easy to read, and typing buttons are made large enough that making typos shouldn’t be much of a problem. Instructions for how to play are provided to first time users. Navigating to and from the home screen is easy to do.
As stated previously, this is a free app. In-app coin purchases can be made that might increase your chance of winning, but these definitely aren’t required.
With a quick, creative mind, you probably won’t be too interested in making any purchases at all.
It’s a great party game and an easy selection for family game night because it’s so much fun to play.
Still, there are issues with this app that keep it from being the “perfect” game. There are little quirks (like the sometimes questionable answer choices) showing that some improvements can definitely still be made for future versions of Scattergories.
Scattergories requires iOS 8.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
