Keeping track of what you need at the grocery store can be difficult, especially if you have a lot of things to buy. While many people still go the route of pen and paper, grocery lists have evolved into something fairly advanced ever since the debut of the iPhone.

Grosh is a brand-new cross-platform shopping list app that offers tons of features for users, including multiple lists, syncing, and much more.

The developers promise that the app will always remain free, which is also a plus.

Concept and Functionality:

As someone who has tried many grocery list apps over the years, I’ve never been able to find one that truly fits what I’m looking for.

Grosh, by Compelling Software, aims to satisfy even the pickiest shopper by providing numerous features and making list creation super simple.

To start, you’ll have to create an account with the service using your email address. This not only allows cloud syncing, but also enables list sharing among other Grosh users whether they’re on Android, iOS, or using a desktop browser. Once your account is set up, you can begin creating lists immediately.

Adding items to a list is as simple as typing it in at the top of the screen. Grosh does include pre-populated standard items, but you can easily add items of your own without having to do so manually. Items are auto sorted on the list by aisle, as well, which is incredibly handy for shoppers who like to be organized.

One of the things I did notice is that Grosh doesn’t auto correct items that are being added to the list. This might seem fairly trivial, but I found it strange and slightly frustrating. Other than that, I think Grosh is very easy to use and is also pretty innovative.

Grosh is definitely rich in useful features that make your shopping experience a bit less painful. This includes the ability to create separate lists, which is great for shopping at different types of stores or shopping for other people/events. Believe it or not, I’ve found that multiple lists are not very common in other grocery shopping apps.

You don’t need to create separate lists if you want to shop in different stores, as you can tag items with a store name. By tapping the store name on the shopping list, you can easily filter/unfilter the list for that store.

Grosh also has the ability to easily set the item quantity needed when it’s being added to the list. This is most simply done by prefixing the item with a number, eg “2 milk” when adding items at the top. The entry for the item then shows the quantity separate from the name of the item.

Grosh remembers the last used quantity and store name, so when entering “milk” the next time it might show “2 milk” and a tag for “Costco”.

Another cool feature of Grosh is list suggestions, which automatically populate after a month of frequent usage. These suggestions are based on items that are frequently added to your list, which is why the app needs a bit of time to learn what you like to shop for.

Grosh is available to download from the App Store for free and is designed for iPhone. As I mentioned above, the developers have stated that the app is and forever will be free, which is great news for anyone who doesn’t want to shell out money for a digitized grocery list.

As mentioned above, a key part of its usefulness is that it runs on a variety of devices, including Android and desktop browsers, not just iPhones.

Overall, I think Grosh could easily replace both pen and paper and similar list apps. It offers plenty of features for users to enjoy and is a great way to keep lists in sync and up-to-date.
