It’s Killing Time is an exciting new game/eBook hybrid that places players right in the middle of the action of an intense story.
Available for $3.99 through the iTunes Store, this app makes you in control of how the rest of the story unravels.
Unlike most stories where you simply are a passive reader of the action, It’s Killing Time, from Choice of Games LLC, gives readers an interactive role in the storyline.
Specifically, through this story-game, readers are regularly given decisions they must make at various points within the game; their decisions at these points are then what directs the remainder of the story. Similar in concept to the popular “Choose Your Own Adventure” children’s stories, this story-reader format definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.
However, unlike in the popular children’s series, It’s Killing Time is just as violent as its name implies and is not recommended for young audiences.
As a whole, I found the flow, suspense, and writing of this app to be very impressive.
The pages flowed seamlessly together, with minimal lag; and re-starting your story at any point is easy to do as well, allowing for optimal replay value.
Appearance and Layout:
The format of this app is excellent. The developer’s choice to keep decisions in a multiple choice format to guide your story keeps things very streamlined.
Minimal time needs to be spent figuring out how to navigate the app, which allows users to easily jump right into the story.
Fonts are readily legible, even on smaller screens. While this app does not offer any graphics within the story, the writing is vivid enough to evoke the imagination of most readers adequately.
Users will appreciate the added touch of a drop down menu that allows for you to easily reset your assassin’s tale at any time.
As mentioned above, It’s Killing Time is currently available for $3.99.
Pricier than many apps and yet still less expensive than most digital books, this app would arguably have more appeal if it were a little less expensive.
While readers who are already familiar with the Choice of Games series will probably not even think twice before purchasing this one, others who are not as familiar with the app’s concept might be less inclined to spend so much on it.
Overall, It’s Killing Time is an app that will definitely appeal to its target audience, but its price tag might be a limiting factor for increasing the numbers in that audience.
It’s Killing Time requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
