Whether you make a daily commute via public transportation or you’re a sporadic traveler, you’re probably aware of how easy it is to drift off to sleep on a long journey.
While catching a bit of shuteye isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it can lead to added frustration due to missing your stop.
iSlept – Location Alarm is an iPhone app that will help users not miss their stop if they happen to doze off.
Developed by Pascal Hadidane, iSlept has plenty of features to help commuters nap responsibly.
Concept and Functionality:
iSlept – Location Alarm is a location-based app that ultimately remains aware of where users are going and provides audio notifications when they’re close to their destination.
We originally reviewed iSlept – Location Alarm back in October of 2014, and there have been many great improvements to the app since then.
To use iSlept – Location Alarm, simply open the app and type your destination into the search bar at the top of the screen. You can choose a city, point of interest, or even an address. Run the search and tap on the destination of your choice, and iSlept – Location Alarm will drop a pin at that location.
When it comes to usability, iSlept – Location Alarm is pretty easy to figure out. If you’re having trouble finding your way around, though, there’s a helpful tutorial in the Config menu.
There are a couple of things I want to stress about iSlept – Location Alarm, though, which is the fact that the app is likely to drain your battery due to constant GPS usage.
This is definitely something to keep in mind and not an issue if you plan for it and have an alternative power source handy.
Also, keep in mind that iSlept – Location Alarm is not meant to be a GPS app that provides turn-by-turn directions or routes you to your destination.
iSlept – Location Alarm includes many great features for commuters, such as the ability to save up to 20 different destinations. This makes quick work of programming iSlept – Location Alarm, especially if you travel the same route(s) frequently.
Also, iSlept – Location Alarm gives users plenty of control over POI options via the Config menu.
You can even choose to have the app display weather conditions, which is definitely useful. Lastly, the Config menu lets you fine tune the audio notification volume.
Of course the location you choose can be anything. So, for example, if you want a reminder to pick up flowers or groceries when you pass your favorite shop, put that address in.
In face, we’d love to see this aspect of the app expanded so you could search for “hardware stores” and get a notification when you’re near any, not just the one you know about.
iSlept – Location Alarm is available to download from the App Store for $2.99 and is designed for iPhone. The price might seem a bit steep, but it’s probably less than the cost of a ticket back to your stop if you happen to miss it because you fell asleep.
If you don’t want to shell out cash without trying the app first, there’s a free version of iSlept – Location Alarm that has limited features but functions the same.
Overall, iSlept – Location Alarm is a great app that accomplishes what it set out to do, which is to give users peace of mind while traveling on public transportation.
iSlept is definitely a tired commuter’s best friend. If you’ve had a long day, don’t make it worse by missing your stop.
iSlept – Location Alarm requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
