If you enjoy Vine or other video-based social media platforms, ALIVE – Video Editor by ALIVE, Inc. is an app that you owe it to yourself to check out. This heavy-duty video editor includes a wealth of features for adding artistic flare to short video clips.
Concept and Gameplay:
Like Vine, ALIVE is meant for short video clips of 30 seconds or less. However, a lot can happen in 30 seconds, especially seeing as ALIVE lets you easily break clips into sections.
It might seem a bit daunting at first, but it’s not hard to find your way around ALIVE. To start making videos, simply open the built-in camera and start recording.
The ALIVE video editor shows you how much time you have left in your 30 second clip, and you can optionally stop and resume recording if you like. You can also upload existing videos to ALIVE and edit them.
Once your clip is recorded, you can use ALIVE’s built-in editor to add animated clip art to videos, as well as fancy text, music, and effect filters. I was really impressed with the amount of variety ALIVE offers as far as objects and filter effects, and there should be something for every video theme.
One very cool effect you need to check out is the motion tracking effects that you can add to videos by fine-tuning the timeline. Once you’re comfortable with how the app works, have at it.
ALIVE is more than a video editor, though. It’s also its own social media network. You can upload your creation to your ALIVE profile, where other users can comment on it and follow you. You can also share your video with other popular networks.
Along with very powerful editing features, ALIVE includes a few neat things for users to enjoy. This includes easily browsing what other users are uploading to the app. ALIVE also features a very nice timeline layout so you can keep track of people you’re following.
The only feature I was disappointed to find missing is the ability to download finished clips straight to your iPhone.
As someone who isn’t incredibly “social” when it comes to social networks, I primarily make artsy video clips like this for my personal collection. Giving users this option would improve the experience of people like myself without forcing them to upload their video to a social network.
ALIVE – Video Editor is available to download from the App Store for free and is designed for iPhone.
Overall, ALIVE is a fantastic alternative to Vine and other social networks. Even if you’re not a very social person, the video editing features included in the app are very impressive and powerful.
I definitely recommend taking a look at the app if you want to tap into your inner artsy videographer.
ALIVE – Video Editor requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
