allrecipesAllrecipes Dinner SpinnerAll Recipes, Inc.

This app starts with “Recipes of the Day”, all of which look sooo scrumptious, and goes from there.

You’ll see recipes without signing in, you can enter which ingredients to search on, or search for recipes that don’t have a certain ingredient, such as ‘chicken’ or ‘saffron’, sort by dietary need, watch videos with step-by-step instructions, generate shopping list, and sort by by time to complete.

Recipes can be scaled for the number of servings and you can use the website too. As an example of the plethora of recipes here, chicken with low carbs and ready in 30 mins or less yielded 135 results.

Ratings and reviews of each recipe are a big help with making your selection for you next masterpiece.

bigovenBigOven: 350,000+ Recipes and Grocery ListBigOven.com

This helpful app makes it easy to search for recipes by ingredients (use leftovers, what’s on hand) so you can whip up something with what you already have around the house.

You can use it without signing in, which is a nice touch, and even embed weather forecasts in menu plans, to let you know when it’s likely to be a good day for that hearty soup.

You can adjust recipes by the number of servings, and then email the grocery list to your significant other/friend to pick up on their way over.

The free version is quite functional but if you like what you see you can opt for the Pro version which is $19.99/yr for unlimited recipes, add photos of paper recipes, add notes, exclude recipes with certain ingredients, and search for recipes using dietary constraints.

foodgawkerfoodgawkergawkerverse

This is a curated collection of recipes from blogs, which many recipe apps are, but adds to it the ability to make your own notes and tags, offers sharing options, search & exclude and is an all around very helpful app.

You can register for free to “favorite” recipes and add notes and tags so you can keep track of how you changed it last time. Upgrade to the full version for $1.99 to see lots of additional recipes. The recipes are updated on a daily basis and they all have pictures associated with them.

It features an easy-to-use UI with a clean layout. The only downside is that since they are links to various blogs, sometimes the recipes are not in English, although when they’re not most sites offer a translation for you.

This app also points you to various food blogs, but, that being said, we have to hand it to the Evernote folks, this app has a fabulous UI and integrates very will with Evernote.

If you use Evernote, this app is a natural, if you don’t, well, maybe you should. Besides recipes that you can browse and save to your “My Cookbook” collection, you can also find nearby restaurants with menus, and catalog your favorite meals vis notes and photos.

Plus any recipes that you may already have in Evernote are auto uploaded saving you that chore. We’d like to see the ability to see recipes by categories, such as lunch, dinner, etc, rather than having to just browse or search on a keyword.

sweetnspicySweet’N’Spicy Vegetarian RecipesAdhish Technologies

This is one of many recipe apps that are dedicated to a particular niche of cooking. In this case the niche is vegetarian.

The design of the app is very easy to work with, featuring an always available slide-out from the left side of the screen for the main menu of the key options.

By selecting “Categories” you then get to select from recipe options such as 30 minute, kids, bachelor, beginner, vegan and more.

There are also quite a few video recipes. If you can’t find a delicious vegetarian recipe for your own particular needs with this app, you’re just not trying.

Does access to 45,000+ recipes intrigue you? What about viewing recipes by one of 20 famous chefs that prepares them?

Or you can pick from a wide array of topics such as Thanksgiving, healthy, Mexican, Seafood and Quick & Easy, to name a few.

Under Thanksgiving you can drill down to Giada’s Crowd Pleasers, Bobby’s Favorites (as in Bobby Flay), Classic Thanksgiving, Leftovers, and more.

The functionality of this app is outstanding. Just about any feature you want is there, such as keep your own recipe box, generate a shopping list, watch how-to videos, add your own notes to any recipe, convert units, or access the Meal Planner.

There’s lots there for you and so it’s no surprise that this app, with over 1,400 folks weighing in, still gets a solid 5 stars rating.

We like that this app lets you register with Facebook, google+ or email, or skip it altogether. Plus, as you use the app it will “learn” about your preferences to help you hone in on the recipes that you’re likely to prefer.

You can adjust the number of servings and send all the ingredients to a shopping list, although you have to log in for that feature. A nice feature of the shopping list is that all items are categorized and you can see which items go with which recipes.

If you have a specific dietary need or food allergy all you have to do is select it in ‘settings’.

The various filters make it a snap to get to the recipes that interest you, be it soups, appetizers, main dishes, snacks and more. The ability to add notes to your recipes would be a nice improvement to this fine app.

gojeeThanksgiving Recipe Collections: Food and Drink RecipesGojee, Inc.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner it’s only right to give a big TheiPhoneAppReview shoutout to this one from GOJEE.

As with their other theme-focused apps, this one is a curated collection of recipes from blogs.

While we’re not particular fans of this type of recipe app, that is, they point you to food blogs, we do appreciate how it assembles some of the best recipes from around the web for your easy perusal. And to be honest, with so many great food blogs out there, they represent a fantastic resource and so if it’s done well, as it is here, we can’t complain.

Another advantage of this style is that you discover food bloggers that you may want to follow and, in your poking around, uncover some gems that will find their way to your table over and over again.

8500drinks8,500+ Drink & Cocktail RecipesWebworks

Last, but definitely not least, is a terrific app for helping you to satisfy the your thirst and that of your guests. Most people don’t think about mixed drinks when you say “recipes” but unless you’re drinking a beer or something “neat” (did someone say Bourbon?), these recipes will be indispensable.

If you have some company to entertain this holiday season, this app is definitely a must-have.

The drinks may or may not contain spirits, but either way, whatever you’re looking for is covered.

A great feature of this app, and one that really makes it stand out from the crowd, is the easy way it lets you enter the ingredients you have on hand and then see which cocktails you can make from them.

Everything from cool classic drinks to exotics, your friends will wonder which bartender school you graduated from.

All of these recipe apps, and many that are not included in this list, will inspire you and make you wonder why you haven’t been using them all along.

Even a boring meatloaf becomes something interesting and delectable when jazzed up with ingredients you may not be using or may not have thought of throwing in.

We can’t encourage you enough to be adventurous and creative when it comes to preparing food for just yourself or for your next party. There’s plenty to choose from no matter what your preferences, current interests, or dietary restrictions.

Buon appetito!
