We love to find apps that stray from the herd and in so doing, bring to our readers something interesting, different, and very worthwhile.
This fun game has a wonderful feel to it and is perfect for its target age group, kids ages 9 to 11. If you’re looking for something fun and different for your child to play with you or their friends, Push Out needs to be at the top of your list.
Concept and Gameplay
Start up this game and you’ll instantly be drawn in by the hand drawn multi-layered images. Some are in the background and some float above the background but under other floating images in a way that is really quite impressive.
Most of the items are drawn in such a way as to make them look like their hanging from puppet strings and that certainly adds to the unique flavor of this game.
You can select a simple tutorial to get a feel for what the game is all about, which is very helpful since the game mechanics are a bit of a challenge, and very likely something you’ve not encountered before. Each game piece can rotate or move in the direction it’s pointing.
You touch the board to make it go where it’s facing and you release your finger to stop it and let it spin. Every time it stops it rotates in the opposite direction. At the end of the tutorial the option to ‘Swipe Right to Continue’ doesn’t work, something that’s sure to be fixed in the next update. We would also like to see a way to back up when you’re into the ‘How to Play’ section.
The game is played either in the arena or in the labyrinth. The labyrinth is for one player to move the little round character along a path hitting all the spots and without falling off the path. Not too hard until you try to beat your previous time or beat your friends. It’s a real challenge to do it fast.
The arena is where you compete against your friends or the computer, or both. This competitive aspect makes this a refreshing change from the self-immersive games most of us play and makes this game perfect for a play-date, family night or a party.
Design and Graphics
The design and graphics of this game are spot on. The bouncing images hanging by strings that are layered amongst other images has a very appealing feel to it. The hand-drawn images are terrific and the whole package just makes the game very inviting.
You get the feeling that you’ll have fun with this game before you do anything, and believe us, you will!
We suspect that you might hesitate to download this game when you see the price. Take it from us, you will be glad to have this game on your iPad.
