Watching shows and movies on televisions? It’s not completely obsolete, but these days, more and more people are opting to watch their favorite sitcoms and dramas in other places and on the go.

As great as televisions are, sometimes you’ll get bored and want to watch something on your phone while you’re waiting in line or at a tedious family reunion.

Though there are various platforms that let you watch television on your phone, none of them probably have as many capabilities or features as VidOn Player, developed by

Concept and Functionality:

If you have the movies and shows on your computer, VidOn handles the rest when it comes to syncing everything with your phone. Though you’ll have to do a little setting up beforehand, everything else is smooth sailing once you have it all connected.

First, you’ll need to head over to and download their free VidOn Server, which turns your PC into a server and allows you to add files directly. If you have files on iTunes, you can skip this step and just drag and drop files into “Apps.”

Incompatibility is definitely a valid concern for most media converters, but VidOn Server offers so many formats, that you shouldn’t have a problem with multimedia formats. In fact, you can access your FTP Server, Windows Sharing Service, Samba, UPnP, NAS and DNLA movies and videos all from your VidOn Player — and up to 1080p playback, thanks to the app’s powerful hardware decoding technology.

The developers of the VidOn Player have done a terrific job of combining so many functions and capabilities into a single free app.

Aside from high-quality decoding, VidOn Player also has a lot of features for users to try. First of all, this app is completely free. Yes — free. And with all of the formats the app supports for video (MP4, WMV, AVI, MKV, RMVB, 3GP, MPG, RM, ASF, F4V, FLV, h264), you’re free to import just about any type of video, including all subtitle formats.

There is also decoding, transcoding and playback for Blu-ray. Not to mention, with gesture controls, you can change volume and brightness and also fast forward and fast playback with just a touch or a swipe.

Interested in learning more about the movie you’re watching? Information on movies is collected online based on what you’re watching. And if you can’t sync one way, you can always find another way: you can sync and manage files with your USB cable or using Wi-Fi or FTP Server.

Depending on how technical you are, setting up VidOn Player can be a little tricky. Nonetheless, for all of the great features that the app comes with, it is worth taking your time with, especially if you like to watch your movies on the go.

You can sort out all of your media however you’d like, and downloading files doesn’t take too long at all. VidOn Player isn’t an app that everyone would use, but for those who are very into transporting their media, this app is definitely something you should look into.
