OurMedDB is designed by SZS Consultants LLC to hold all important medical information for family members in one secure iOS app. Available through the iTunes Store for about $5, this app boasts of being the perfect way to stay organized on all your current medical needs. Finding a way to keep an entire family’s medical records organized can be a harrowing task, and OurMedDB is specifically designed to solve that problem. We found OurMedDB to be one convenient place to keep all pertinent medical information—from prescription data to information about last doctors’ appointments to emergency contact info.
We really liked how the last feature (emergency contact info) can be displayed on the iOS device’s lock screen but all other data is password protected directly in the app, without the need for third-party involvement.
Users can also opt to list the allergies, medical test results, and immunization records of family members within the app if desired as well.
However, it should be noted that the information stored in OurMedDB is not meant in any way to replace actual official medical records; instead, the app is simply meant to be a way to stay organized on the medical needs of a full family at one time. But let’s face it, if you’re faced with a situation where you need access to this info quickly, you may not have your printed receipts or records handy but you will, most likely, have your iPhone with you.
Appearance and Layout:
The appearance of OurMedDB can be described as practical, at best. The color scheme is certainly not particularly impressive, and no extra attention appears to have been paid to making the app really aesthetically appealing.
That said, however, navigating around the app is fairly simple to do—an aspect that is arguably more important than its appearance for an app of its type. In fact, for any first-timers to the app, a constantly accessible “demo account” is featured for the “John Doe” family.
Having this demo account in the app is really great as it helps to fully showcase all of the features of OurMedDB and aids anyone in figuring out how exactly the app is organized.
Additionally, the official website for the app is very helpful in understanding all of the features of OurMedDB as well.
OurMedDB is a good concept for an app. While its design is not particularly impressive, its features are still fluidly functional and very practical. However, at $4.99, the price for its overall appeal seems a bit steep.
Although some iOS users will probably find the price of OurMedDB to be perfectly justifiable, many others may look to cheaper alternative ways to store their medical and emergency information.
Overall, OurMedDB is a very useful app with good features and is reasonably priced for the functionality it provides. That said, we also think a lower price would certainly make it more appealing to a wider audience.
OurMedDB requires iOS 7.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
