ShotBuf – Copy anything from your desktop to mobile
iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Created by Vladimir Ignatev, ShotBuf is an app that leverages your Dropbox account and is designed to make connecting files between your phone, tablet, and computer even easier than ever before. Available for $0.99 through the iTunes Store, this app is designed to quickly improve users’ productivity levels.
As mentioned above, ShotBuf makes sharing work between your computer and mobile devices incredibly easy. Basically it’s a “step up” from the regular Dropbox file sharing scheme. ShotBuf makes it even easier for users to take screenshots or “copy and paste” other items from one device to another. Concerned that the copy of your doc on your other device won’t have your latest copy and paste edits? Not with ShotBuf.
You do this by simply placing the files in their ShotBuf folders (automatically created when the program and app are installed). The key to ShotBuf is that it synchs your clipboard any time you copy and paste something using Command-C on your Mac or Ctrl-C on your PC. Links, images, screenshots and text are all supported.
This program is supported by both Mac and Windows and works with iOS 6 or 7. Supported files include everything from links to text docs to images; files can originate from Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP, and more, without the need for external plugin programs.
Personally, I was very please with how simple using ShotBuf was and how seamlessly I could incorporate it into saving/creating backups of my work.
Appearance and Layout:
ShotBuf has a straightforward, streamlined design that makes it beautifully user-friendly. Setting up a ShotBuf account takes practically no time at all, provided one already has a Dropbox account. Of course if you don’t already have a Dropbox account you will first need to create a one in order for ShotBuf to work.
Once installed, ShotBuf creates its own account into the Dropbox folder, and users are instructed to install ShotBuf on their computers’ clipboards as well, allowing for easy “copying and pasting” from one device to another.
ShotBuf is only $0.99, and for all of convenience its features offer, this price seems fairly reasonable. Using ShotBuf does exactly what it is promised to do—it quickly syncs files between your computer and tablet/iPhone, regardless of whether the files are images other types of documents.
Many users who are already using Dropbox to synch saved files across their devices may find the point of ShotBuf a bit redundant. After all, if you just want to synch the final saved copy of your docs then Dropbox gets the job done without any extra help.
On the other hand, if you want to make sure that interim edits (using copy and paste) are propagated across your devices then ShotBuf’s features will certainly be appreciated since they take you beyond what Dropbox already provides.
ShotBuf requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
