Random Ruby, developed by App Volks, is a new and exciting word game for iPhone and iPad. Featuring an original concept and tons of puzzles to solve, this is one game that puzzle lovers will certainly enjoy.
Concept and Gameplay:
It’s incredibly refreshing when a new game comes around, especially a new puzzle that makes you think in ways you’ve never done before. Random Ruby is certainly new to me, and incredibly fun to play.
The game requires players to listen to a conversation between three people (Ruby and her two coworkers) and find the common word that links everything together.
Why is the game called Random Ruby? Well, when the two coworkers have finished conversing about a topic, Ruby appears from the other side of the cubicle and makes a statement that seemingly has nothing to do with what they were talking about.
Once the exchange is finished, users must select from a variety of letters to find the word that links Ruby’s comment with the conversation.
The game is much easier to understand once you play through a few of the levels, but it’s truly challenging at some points. Personally I find this incredibly refreshing and original. While this certainly isn’t a game for people who are looking for action or adventure, Random Ruby is a perfect game for puzzle lovers who really want to pick their brain.
As any challenging puzzle game should, Random Ruby features hints for players. Hints can be purchased with rubies that are earned from successfully completing puzzles. Users can choose to spend 60 rubies to add a correct letter to the word and/or 80 rubies to remove an incorrect letter from the group.
Considering each puzzle that’s solved rewards only 4 rubies, it’s very easy to zip through the initial amount. Personally I think either the ruby price per hint should be lowered or rewards should be tiered based on performance so players can earn rubies faster.
Random Ruby includes 300 levels to play through, meaning this is definitely a marathon game. I can almost guarantee you’ll run into puzzles that just don’t make sense, and if you run out of rubies for hints you can always post to Facebook and seek help from friends.
Random Ruby is available to download from the App Store for free and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad. Users can optionally upgrade to the pro version of the game for $1.99, which removes ads and adds 500 rubies to their account.
Overall, folks who are looking for a completely new puzzle game to try should definitely check out Random Ruby!
Random Ruby requires iOS 5.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
