This app is primarily meant to complement existing physical therapy treatments and is intended for use by both patients and therapists.
Concept and Functionality:
Usually patients of almost every medical ailment leave the doctor’s office with a sheet of paper that gives semi-detailed information on how to continue caring for your condition.
PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow seeks to eliminate this by providing physical and occupational therapy patients with an app that not only shows them how to complete each exercise, but also keeps track of performance so the physical therapist can see how well the patient is progressing.
From what I can tell, PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow is meant to be initially set up by the therapist. It takes a minute to familiarize yourself with the navigation menu in PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow, but everything is fairly self-explanatory. First, a user profile must be created for the patient.
The app allows unlimited user profiles, which is fantastic for therapists who would like to use the app within their office. Once a profile is created, the therapist can create custom exercise routines for the patient, selecting from a wide variety of well-known exercises.
Once everything is set up, the patient can view the exercises they need to complete. What’s really neat about PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow is the fact that the app includes a very detailed visualization of the exercise, which the patient can follow along with. This almost eliminates any confusion on how to perform the required exercises and makes treatment much more effective.
For therapists who are looking to use PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow as a working tool in their office, the app allows you to create exercise templates for common injuries. This can expedite the process of setting up a patient with a routine and getting them started on treatment right away.
However, PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow can be used by both doctor and patient, which is where my favorite feature comes into play.
Therapists can easily email routines to patients, and patients can easily import the .xml attachment into PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow. This means that patients can receive a new exercise routine almost immediately without having to see their therapist.
PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow is available to download from the App Store for $4.99 and is designed for iPad. Regarding overall thoughts on the app, I believe it’s an invaluable tool for patients and therapists.
PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow very capably compliments any treatment for golf elbow or similar injuries, and it easily bridges the gap between patient and therapist.
Whether you’re in the medical field or you’re currently undergoing physical therapy, I highly suggest taking a look at what the app has to offer.
PT and OT Helper Golf Elbow requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
