The app world is full of surprises. Every once in a while, some synthesis of styles stimulates a brand new app that takes everyone by surprise. Doctored, from Doctored, Inc., is in many ways, this exact type of app.
The app takes a new approach to physical attraction and the wide world of courting by allowing you to adapt yourself into a digital context. You can create a digital mock-up, cartoon-creation of yourself, and compare yourself to friends and peers. Figure out who is your match and how attractive you are (digitally speaking) with Doctored.
This app especially resonates with my 12-year-old self, who used to create a self-inspired character in every Tony Hawk or MLB game I could get my hands on. In a similar vein, this game allows users to adapt toward the digital realm; choosing character traits from stomach type to color bikini top. You can even create your ideal partner and see what others think about it.
There are tons of combinations here, and some very creative developments at play in this app. If you like dressing yourself up and down just to try new styles, than the experimental nature of this game will definitely appeal to you. You can even undergo virtual surgeries!
The game is intended for a social platform, so sign up and compete against your friends to maximize the fun. Personalize your character, calculate and re-calculate your “Desirability Ranking” and play trivia as well and earn Doctored Dollars.
Doctored is ripe with fun features, and if you like Facebook more than you like people’s actual faces, then Doctored is right up your alley.
Concept and Functionality:
One big pet peeve of mine is being mined for personal information. This app makes you sign up with your name, email address, password, agreement to terms and separate username before you can even login.
This is where I usually recommend some sort of an entry period, where the basic features of the app are available to everyone regardless of subscription, and more complicated and in-depth options are reserved for those who give email address, credit card info, etc.
Still, the app runs well and looks relatively fresh, though some of the graphics look like stock-images. Also, if you want to choose your skin tone, you’ve only got one of two choices, so the app could use a bit more ethnic sensibility.
This app functions well and brings something unique and fun to the table. We especially appreciate the originality and creativity of Doctored. It looks and feels very rare, and though it may only appeal to a certain personality type, the creative edge alone makes it worth a go.
DoctoredApp requires iOS 4.3 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
