Ark Duo – Earth Recon
iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Ark Duo—Earth Recon, from Steve Scott, is a space shooter game by Steve Scott. Available for $0.99 through the iTunes Store, or for free with ads, Ark Duo pits players against asteroids and aliens who wish to destroy a shuttle on its way back to earth.
This game is a simple yet fun approach to space shooters that features an “old school arcade” feel to it. Unlike many current iOS games that place a strong focus on speed, Ark Duo—Earth Recon provides players with challenges focused on navigating through obstacles at paces more directed by the players themselves.
Both shooting and navigating through flying obstacles (alien ships and asteroids) is accomplished through screen taps, and Ark Duo displays beautifully on both iPhones and iPads alike.
Game play in the app is seemingly endless, with the option of earning different spaceships or in-game power-ups through collecting enough coins. Ark Duo—Earth Recon players also have the option of registering on Gamecenter to compete against other players for the top spots in the app.
Appearance and Layout:
Both the appearance and layout of Ark Duo—Earth Recon are certainly above average for iOS app games available today.
While the graphics of Ark Duo aren’t particularly intricate or impressive, they are still perfectly fitting for the old-school arcade feel of the game and should more than satisfy most iOS users who choose to try out Ark Duo—Earth Recon.
Getting around the app is also easy to do, with the layout being extremely straight forward and leaving me with no questions even on my first time trying out the app.
On-screen directions/information is kept to a minimum (with a simple icon for “coins collected” at the top left of the screen and a “pause” option towards the middle right), and this choice in layout is appreciated because it leaves game play completely free of any unnecessary distractions.
Ark Duo—Earth Recon costs $0.99 through the iTunes Store and is a game completely free of any in-app advertisements. Optional in-app purchases to buy more coins (instead of collecting them in-game) can be made if desired.
Overall, Ark Duo seems to be fairly reasonably priced; while there are certainly free apps on the market today that are arguably more complex or challenging, the price of Ark Duo is completely reasonable for the features that it offers. And keep in mind that you can try out the free version if you’re still not convinced.
Ark Duo—Earth Recon requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
