ZoomIt!, developed by Rudolf Jurgens, is a unique and fun photo puzzle game for iPhone. Whether you’re looking for a new game to play with friends or you’d like to put the hundreds of random photos on your iPhone to good use, this game is definitely worth checking out.
Concept and Gameplay:
The first thing I noticed about ZoomIt was think useful and comprehensive tutorial that popped up when I first opened the game. It did an excellent job of guiding me through all of the different aspects of how to play, and when I created my account I was ready to start stumping opponents.
The interface of ZoomIt is clean and bright, and it’s easy to find everything that’s necessary to play. Active games are neatly arranged on the main screen, making it a breeze to start games and resume games that are in progress.
The whole concept of the ZoomIt is to upload a photo (from your camera or photo library) and select a small and obscure area in the photo to send to an opponent. The opponent then has to try and guess what the photo is. If they’re not sure, the zoomed in area is expanded a little bit to reveal more of the photo.
The more attempts it takes your opponent to guess what the photo is, the more points you earn. If and when your opponent has figured out what the photo is of, they’ll send you their answer and you’ll need to tell them if they’re correct, sort of correct but not quite, or flat-out wrong.
While the idea of the game that requires opponents to take wild guesses is certainly nothing new, I found ZoomIt to be oddly refreshing and fun. It’s not hard to learn how to play it, and it’s a great way to go through your iPhone’s camera roll to try and find photos to stump your opponent.
The best part is that the game allows you to connect with others in a variety of ways, such as Facebook, ZoomIt username.
ZoomIt is fairly straightforward, so I really wasn’t surprised to see that it wasn’t full of fluff and unnecessary add-ons. However, there was a unique feature I picked up on which is worth pointing out.
If you’re extra stumped on a photo, you can share it with friends on Facebook or followers on Twitter. Seeking out the help of others won’t count against your score, so it’s a bit of a nice bonus.
Another nice feature worth mentioning is the ability to chat with your opponent. Though not everybody is the talkative type when playing turn-based games with strangers, this is a great feature for those who enjoy playing against friends and family.
ZoomIt is available to download for free from the App Store and is designed for iPhone. It’s worth mentioning that there is an in-app upgrade to the premium version for $1.99. This upgrade banishes ads and allows you to play an unlimited number of games at once.
Overall, though it might not be a breakthrough in iPhone gaming, ZoomIt definitely has the potential to be a successful turn-based photo guessing game.
ZoomIt! requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
