Remember those puzzles where, in order to solve them, you had to move around various tiles on a square board depending on where there were open spaces?
If you’ve been wondering where you could get your hands on these puzzles again, the Sliding Tiles game can help you out. Sliding Tiles, developed by EnergyDams, is a sliding tiles game that challenges your strategic thinking and skills.
Concept and Functionality:
Sliding Tiles is an app dedicated to exactly what it sounds like. On your device, you are given a 5×5 tile puzzle to work with and try to solve. There are three levels to choose from: Easy, Medium and Hard.
The easiest level is the most straightforward in terms of solving, with sequences that are numbered or simple pictures. The medium level includes more difficult photos including photos of a Horsehead Nebula or the Steph Virus.
Finally, the hardest level takes a lot of brainpower, and requires a fairly deep understanding of math or science, since the puzzle patterns included are distant galaxies and science constants.
To play, you need to be able to think on your feet. Like the real-life tile puzzles, when moving various objects around, you only have one free space to work with, so you are inherently forced to get creative.
I’ll admit that these types of puzzles tend to get me riled up because they can get very frustrating, but at the same type, they will also keep you occupied and have you exercising your mind.
Everything in the app is very direct. There are no miscellaneous buttons or extra decorations whatsoever that make the app distracting or busy. Sliding Tiles is really as simple as it gets in terms of game apps.
Aside from the variety of puzzles to choose from in the game, there aren’t too many other features that the game can tout. There’s an info button on the top right, which allows you to check the rules of Sliding Tiles any time you need them.
This app, unfortunately, could afford to be prettier, or at least more visually-appealing. When you’re first introduced to the game, the interface is the slightest bit messy, and when you get to the landing page for game options, the lack of thought put into the design of the app is a bit of a turn-off.
Nonetheless, because it’s simple, issues relating to navigation probably will never come up.
As much as you will want to pull your hair out while trying to figure these puzzle games out, your brain (and hair) will thank you later. Sliding Tiles is not a game targeted to those focused on how an app is designed or how it looks.
Rather, this app hopes to cater to the interests of those who are passionate about mathematics and sciences since most of the puzzles in this app require that type of knowledge.
Even if you’re not the next Einstein, you still have the ability to solve these puzzles, though it takes some getting used to. Sit with the app for a while, and soon you’ll get the hang of it.
Sliding Tiles is a great app that will get your brain up and moving, and will keep you busy for hours on end.
Sliding-Tiles requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
