The app is more reminiscent of the Tinder app than anything else, and allows users to scan through mug-shots aplenty to find the hottest users on the app. You’ll receive a score of your own based on other users immediate reaction of how good looking you are (or not).
You’ll also contribute to other users scores by giving ratings of your own.
Slightly vapid? Perhaps. But with over 190 million members from across the globe, the app is definitely feeding a frenzy and calling the shots of who’s hot and who’s not.
The app boasts a “shared friends” feature that actually allows for a Facebook-esque feeling of mutual connections. Other than that, the app will request both your email and your cell-phone to put you into the ring with other users.
If you’ve got a questionable photo or generally don’t like to be judged, then we would stay clear of this app. If you find someone you fancy, reach out to him or her to further the connection.
The latest version is optimized for iOS 7 and has a user base that’s far more established than 9/10’s of apps on the market. If you’ve seen “The Social Network”, you already know that Facebook was originally built on the same premise of Hot or Not!
While the primary feature is sometimes objectionable, it’s also gratifying in a strange way that attracts scores of users.
Concept and Functionality:
There are heaps of reviews that are calling for an immediate update of this app because the cell-phone verification is faulty. Additionally, many users claim that generally the functionality is glitchy, although I managed to navigate the app without too much trouble.
The concept itself is highly controversial, as people feel naturally objectified by this app. However, this is basically the central point of the app, so the major caveat is this; if you do not want to be judged based on your appearance, don’t download this app in the first place!
This app does what it sets out to do. It provides you with thousands upon thousands (probably millions actually) of mug shots, and lets you decide whom to contact, whom to rate, and who is hot.
While this app isn’t going to solve the global water crisis or redefine mobile technology, it also might help you kill a few minutes here and there.
Hot or Not! requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
