In all our years reviewing iPhone applications, we can honestly say this is a new one for us. Today’s review of Cell60, from Pelorus Holdings Inc., covers new and interesting territory: More specifically, it covers selling your iPhone . . . directly from your iPhone. How wild is that?
We never thought we’d see the day, but now that we’re here, we can certainly see the value in what Cell60 has to offer. And for our full review of the title, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
If you’re familiar with sites like Gazelle (and at this point, there are oodles of them) then you likely already know how Cell60 works. Essentially, the app is a front for the company itself.
This company’s sole purpose is to refurbish, resell or otherwise recycle your old, used smartphones. In this case, we’re most interested in the iPhone. And their nifty iPhone app makes it all the easier. Here’s how it works:
Boot up the app, and then hit go. Because you’re on your phone, Cell60 can gather a lot of information without you entering a thing. Once it figures out what model you have, just enter the condition of the phone by tapping. And voila! You’ve got an instant quote.
That is to say, within seconds you have a real, live value for your phone, and if you decide to sell, the next step is even easier.
Postage is paid for by Cell60, meaning you can ship off your iPhone for free. Once the device is in Cell60’s hands, you are credited in a number of the typical ways, all of which look particularly secure.
When things are all said and done, Cell60 is snappy, efficient, and one of the easiest ways we’ve seen yet to hock off that old Apple phone.
And to top if off, it also offers the ability to sell a different device.
Design and Interface
All of that being said, the interface here isn’t much to look at. It’s a rather crab affair that’s certainly not bringing anything new to the Web 2.0 world. Then again, we suppose it doesn’t really need to.
Either way, the process of obtaining a quote for your phone could not be easier. In fact, we can’t think of a faster way to get the job done. So when you tally up the points, we suppose it’s a dead wash here—and that’s just alright with us.
In a side-by-side value comparison with Gazelle itself (We’re going with the Big-G, simply because it’s one of the longest standing phone recyclers out there) Cell60 is offering crazy amounts of buy-back. Our 5 was rated at $180 with Cell60, as compared to $160 for the same condition with Gazelle.
This means one of two things: Either Cell60 is a rip-off (we’re not seeing this from customer reviews) or what they say is exactly true, that they offer the best pricing for used devices and it’s a stellar value. No matter which way it works out, though, it’s certainly worth a look.
Cell60 requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
