When Monday comes around, sometimes you need a little extra help getting up. There are countless alarms in the App Store, but most of them are not very useful. Alarmy (Sleep If U Can), by Delight Room Co.,Ltd., on the other hand, is an alarm app that is sure to wake you up, even if you sleep like a baby.
Concept and Functionality:
Alarmy has received the honor of being the “World’s Most Annoying Alarm App,” and the title makes a lot of sense once you start using it. But as bad as the title sounds, Alarmy is also extremely helpful since it is so annoying.
Setting up alarms in the app is easy. There’s a button in the center of the screen (you can’t miss it!) that says “Add alarm.” From there, you can scroll to set the time of your alarm as well as how you want to shut off your alarm.
This is the fun part.
You have three different methods you can use to dismiss the alarm. You can leave the alarm on default, which will simply require you to swipe up to shut off the alarm. You can choose to shake the phone a number of times to turn the alarm off. Or, last but not least, you can take a photo to match a photo you took earlier. If the photo you take does not match up, the alarm will continue ringing.
Depending on how badly you need to wake up, you can change up the accuracy of the photo you need to take in order to shut the alarm off. Low makes it so that as long as you’re within the ballpark, the alarm will be dismissed.
The normal accuracy requires a bit more detail than low. However, if you set the accuracy to high, you will need to match the lines of the first photo very carefully — good luck trying to fall back asleep!
If you find that these methods alone won’t wake you up, Alarmy comes with a selection of obnoxious yet very effective ringtones as well. These ringtones include a very realistic-sounding siren, an alarm bell that gradually gets louder and even Christmas music that is guaranteed to drive you crazy.
If you want to change up the theme of the app, you can choose from a variety of colors including blue, red, yellow or green.
And in case you ever want to look back on the combination of methods and sounds you have used on Alarmy, you can view the history of your alarms by clicking the navigation on the top left side of the app.
What I love about Alarmy is that it does exactly what it’s supposed to: wake people up. The problem with the majority of alarm clock apps is that developers try too hard to make these apps pretty or user-friendly and forget the main purpose of their app.
That’s why I’ve become skeptical of a lot of alarm clock apps on iPhone, but certainly not Alarmy. Even when I’m fast asleep, I can depend on Alarmy to keep me wide-awake, especially when I set my alarm dismissal to “take a photo.” Yes, it’s annoying and yes, this alarm will make you want to throw your phone across the room. But this app really works, and you’ll never oversleep again as long as you use Alarmy.
Alarmy (Sleep If U Can) requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
