Temple Run helped to change the way that touch-screen gamers engage with fast-paced action. The game became infamously popular, and for a long while, it was the norm to see people standing in line or sitting on the subway dragging their fingers in a frenzy to outpace those furious chimps in hot-pursuit.
To accompany the major blockbuster animation, Walking With Dinosaurs, the game has come strong out of the gate and at breakneck speed. Whether or not you’ve seen the movie, you’re definitely going to want to check out this game.
With hilarious names like Patchi (our beloved protagonist) and the terrifying Gorgosaurus (the one that’s trying to eat you), you’ll immediately be enraptured with this gameplay.
You use touch controls to drag your character to the left or right, and are also able to head-butt obstacles or jump clear over them. You collect leaves along the way in order to upgrade your boosts, and can also capture feathers to unlock both new characters and levels.
Both the thrill of being chased, and the hungry pursuit of both leaves and feathers help keep this game entertaining throughout.
You’ve also got to watch out for flying enemies, and oppositional herds as well. If you’re not quick, you’re bound to get gobbled up!
Concept and Functionality:
Gameplay is extremely fluid and the controls are highly sensitive. This game was obviously designed with a great deal of care, and the user experience directly reflects that.
The three-dimensional environments do a great deal to compliment the general atmosphere of the game, and the bright setting keeps your eyes engaged and zeroed into the heart of the action.
There is always a new enemy approaching, tree falling, or other obstacle on the horizon, so you’ve got to pay a great deal of attention if you want to survive.
What’s especially nice about this is that the more attention you pay, the more you begin to realize the true depth of the environment of the game. Each level is highly dynamic and a true gem in its own right.
The idea of following a major motion picture with an app is brilliant, and Dino Run! is bound to get heaps of downloads. While the format of this game has been done before, new characters and environments help to create a completely new experience.
The app isn’t free, but at only $0.99, hopefully it won’t set you back too much. If you’ve got a kid who loved the Walking With Dinosaurs movie, then Dino Run! should definitely help to keep the entertainment value alive, even after the movie lets out.
This game is a blast, the characters are great, and we’ve got to give it two thumbs up!
Walking With Dinosaurs: Dino Run! requires iOS 4.3 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
