Almost a year ago to the date, we told you about a new note taking application called Note Anytime, from MetaMoJi Corporation. We told you about all of the great features that it had to offer, including as much note editing, posting, amalgamating and writing potential as you could possibly want.
At the time, the application was free, and we told you to snag it before it went for-pay and continued to improve.
We’re just tickled pink to report that that’s exactly what the developers have done with their handwriting-focused baby, and it’s now back with a new version that’s better than ever.
For our full thoughts on this new launch and our total review, you need only to slide down below the break.
Concept and Functionality
If you’ve used any note taking app on the iPad before, then you’re likely aware of how Note Anytime will work. The title gives you lots of blank space (whether that’s literally, or metaphorically, as the app comes with a whole heap of pre-made templates) and lets you jump in with a pen.
That’s just the beginning however, and don’t assume that you’ll be stopping there.
For instance, Note Anytime now comes with handwriting recognition—requires a for-pay upgrade—while maintaing a truly massive list of additional features.
For instance: You’ll get exporting to PDF including your annotations, Google Drive / Evernote / DropBox integration, scaling that allows you to increase or decrease size without quality loss, a multitude of pens including sharp calligraphy, automatic designing of simple items like flyers à la Publisher, and whole-hearted Office support.
That’s not even half of what else you’ll get with Note Anytime. We don’t say this lightly, but Note Anytime has given us everything we could possibly want in a note taker and more. It’s a bit incredible, and a whole lot appreciated.
Design and Interface
However, a lot of note taking utilities out there offer this kind of functionality. So what continues to make Note Anytime the superior option? Without a doubt, it’s the attention to detail and the incredibly intuitive interface.
We still love the floating toolbar, as well as the heavy touch-based design of the interface itself. Every single part of it can be accessed with only a few minor taps, as every iPad app should be. Furthermore, even the white space has been managed well, giving you the maximum viewport for your notes with very minimal effort.
It takes a lot of work to put this much into a single application. It takes true finesse to make it all fit in place.
We warned you back in the day that Note Anytime might go up in price, and we were quite right. The app itself will cost you a quarter the price of a Starbucks latte, which is still a great deal. However, for some of the larger features we’ve talked about (most notably hand-writing recognition) you’ll have to fork out a little more.
In our opinion it is still worth every penny. However, don’t take our word for it. Jump in now and get straight to enjoying the fruits!
Note Anytime requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
