If you’ve been following us long here at the iPhone App Review, then you’re likely aware that there’s one field—no pun intended—in which I tend to geek out most.
No it’s not arcade games, though I do love ‘em. No, it’s any application that has us pegging away at general footie knowledge. I love the sport just as much as anyone (probably more than most Americans) which is why I’m delighted to be bringing you a review of Footbaholic, from Mobile Games & Quizzes, today.
The app is the near perfect way to test out your expertise, and to even do it against real opponents. And for our full review, you need not buy expensive World Cup tickets—just head below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
We’ve chosen the word “gameplay” up there, but not in the sense that you’ll be enjoying any pansy FIFA action.
Footbaholic is all about the trivia—a boon for some of us. The app will test your knowledge with a sum total of 10,000 plus questions, each about various aspects of football.
You’ll be quizzed on teams, leagues, players, scores, history, and a boat load of other topics.
It’s quite extensive, and you’re really going to have to bring your A-Game to get through it. However, if you’re feeling skittish you can try out your brain-tank in the practice field first. Then, when you’re ready, hop online to compete in real trivia matches against actual opponents.
Each player in the one-on-one shoot off is given the same questions to answer. This ensure fair play, and it adds up to some intense action. Score well enough often, and you’ll start to gain in-app achievements: Another area I’m particularly vulnerable to. Overall, it’s a solid, addictive and fun application to play through.
Design and Interface
When it comes to sports applications, we’re used to a whole lot of flashy gradients and sharp color contrasts. This makes the smooth, minimalist design that Footbaholic is sporting rather refreshing.
The interface is wonderfully simply to navigate, and you’ll not have to strain to get just about anywhere. Beyond the aesthetic nature of the app, we also appreciate the fact that the devs are constantly adding new content and material. This ensures that what’s here stays fresh, and that the gameplay does likewise.
Footbaholic is free with a premium upgrade should you wish to purchase it. Because of this, it’s an incredible value, and one that’s quite hard to turn down. If you’re into football, no matter where you hail from, you’ll love Footbaholic, and we imagine you’ll spend a whole lot of time trying to best your rivals.
The app is a golden example of footie trivia in the App Store, and it’s a tremendous bargain to boot. Footbaholic is an easy recommendation.
Footbaholic requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
