The room you’re in is slowly filling up with smoke. With people running around in every direction, you’re finding it difficult to compose yourself as the smoke gets denser. You can barely see in front of you now, with the combination of thick smoke and blurry, moving bodies.
You need to find an exit. Now.
Then, in a sudden moment of clarity, you remember — you have your Emergency Exit app. You open it up, brush yourself off quickly and head in the direction of the nearest exit.
Life is full of surprises, but sometimes not all of these surprises are so inviting, especially when you find yourself in a confusing situation such as an unexpected building fire. The Emergency Exit – Find the Nearest Exit app, developed by Hugo Pereira, can help you get out quickly and safely in these types of scenarios.
Concept and Functionality:
Emergency Exit’s main purpose is to help you find an emergency exit as easily as possible. In order to do this, the app can detect where you are and identify all major entrances and exits as soon as you open the app. So don’t worry about waiting for your app to load — Emergency Exit knows that you’re most likely in a hurry.
There’s not much that you have to do on your own end since Emergency Exit does most of the work. In fact, the app will automatically adjust to your bearings wherever you are so that whichever direction you go, the map will re-calculate accordingly.
If you find yourself someplace with multiple floors, Emergency Exit doesn’t rule any of them out — though the entrances and exits on your floor level are highlighted, the rest on other floors will remain visible. Emergency Exit is very practical, and is designed so that even if you find yourself in a scary or panic-inducing situation, you’ll still be able to use the app with ease.
Though the map view seems a little zoomed out, it does help to see the bigger picture of where you are as well as the emergency exits that are around you. But if you’re having some trouble seeing your map, you can always zoom in or out however much you prefer.
So far, Emergency Exit has emergency exit indoor maps covered for most major airports, casinos, convention centers, hospitals and more not only in America but also in other parts of the world including Australia, U.K. and Spain.
Unfortunately, because the locations with emergency exit layouts are still limited, you will have to have an idea of which places have floor plans in advance. And like many geolocation apps, Emergency Exit still needs an internet connection in order to work properly.
As helpful as Emergency Exit is, the truth is that you probably won’t be using it frequently unless A) you are extremely curious about emergency exits; B) you find yourself in unfortunate and rare scenarios often or C) you always like to know where the exits are.
It’s an app that’s definitely helpful to have, and an app that might potentially save your life, but there are still some improvements that can be made, like adding new locations.
But it might not be worth chancing it — better go download Emergency Exit!
