Every once in a while, something will come along that sweeps up the mini-milliseconds of down time from millions of people all at one. Things like this hit critical mass, and all of a sudden, if you haven’t heard of it, you’re in the minority.

Candy Crush became this very phenomenon in the last several years, and now Sugar Crush, from developer Eyal Katz, has become a follow-up, overnight sensation in the same vein.

You’ll be hard pressed to find an avid iPhone or iPad gamer who hasn’t at least heard of this game, and its predecessor, Candy Crush. The game picks up where Candy Crush left off, and is a bright, sweet (Sugar Crush, get it?) and addictive pleasure to play.

With a simple yet addictive formula (much like the candy it alludes to) Sugar Crush has already caught on for countless gamers, and may just hit your sweet tooth.

Features:

This game is really quite simple, as you have to “Pop” all of the candy in a particular level, but have a limited number of taps with which to do so. Somewhere between chance and strategy, Sugar Crush allows you to advance from one level to the next while acquiring special features and power ups along the way.

The app gives the user new hints everyday, and comes with complete iPhone 5 support and optimization. The visuals are clean and clear. This app obviously takes cues from the greats and follows up with its own formula for success.

Concept and Functionality:

Now, Sugar Crush is not a completely novel concept. It does have roots in other puzzle games, and is obviously a modern spin off of Candy Crush. However, it goes many steps further than other similar games, and gives the user enough incentive to permanently switch to its sugar induced frenzy.

This game is arguably more dynamic than Candy Crush, and taps into the psyche of craving; offering new levels, new boosts, and perks each time you play.

The app runs smooth and I doubt you’ll be able to play a single level without coming back for more.  The functionality is top-notch, and the app digs deep to hold its own.

Overall Value:

This is definitely one of the stronger puzzle games we’ve reviewed. Somewhere between puzzle, chance, and strategy, this game takes the cake with fluid gameplay, appealing aesthetics, and consistently fresh content. If you’re watching your blood sugar, you may want to stay clear. Otherwise, you should download Sugar Crush and get to crushing these puzzles stat!

SC QR Sugar Crush requires iOS 4.3 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
