iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Pro Player, from Forward Bounding LLC, is an audio-centric app that gives you yet another choice of how to sort, organize and ultimately play your music. The iOS 7 friendly interface, and generally clean presentation make this app a solid performer and allow it to make some waves, however, it doesn’t do anything we haven’t seen before.
If you’ve taken to collecting music apps, this one might just be a handy addition to your collection. Otherwise, you might want to spend the $0.99 on an iTunes single, or better yet, plug the money toward your Spotify subscription.
This app essentially is a music organizer. For those who are boycotting the ubiquity of Apple, and refuse iTunes, this might just be a nice substitute. Otherwise, this app really doesn’t do much that you haven’t seen before. It’s got a pretty little logo, a fresh interface, and a relatively smooth polish to it. You can sort music by genre, artist, album or alphabetically.
Concept and Functionality:
Here’s where the app shines. The iOS 7 functionality lets this app open and close without a hitch, and generally it works well as a music player. However, after playing with this app a little bit, it does leave you craving iTunes and wondering why you made the switch in the first place.
The concept isn’t new, but the functionality does have some staying power. For music connoisseurs, this app may just be a welcome addition to their collection. For everyone else, it’s a bit hard to justify using this app over more established and generally higher functioning music players and organizers.
If you don’t use Soundcloud, Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, or Rdio, then you might just find a permanent use for this app. Otherwise, you’ll be hard pressed to justify exactly why you made the switch.
We think that if this app integrates more directly with social media, and emphasizes it’s Album art and streaming capabilities (hint, hint, maybe integrate an equalizer function to help boost sound solely from within the app) then it’ll have a lot more going for it. Until then, this app has some stark competition that it’s going to have to face.
There’s growing room here, that’s for sure. But to truly compete with the over-saturated music app market we’ve seen in the last few years, Pro Player is going to have to dig a bit deeper to convince a fan base to come its way.
Pro Player requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
