Not everyone has the luxury of an art gallery in their neighborhood, and sometimes you just feel like browsing art. Perhaps you’re an art student and you’d like to be able to view art on-the-go with your iPhone or iPad. Whatever your muse may be, this app might become your new favorite.

Sure to become a favorite app for anyone who enjoys art, Metropolitan HD brings the gallery to you. Developed by Evolution Games LLP, this sophisticated and charming digital art gallery is a must-have!

Concept and Functionality:

Metropolitan HD simplifies the process of viewing art by displaying high resolution images of paintings to your iPad and iPhone. The app conveniently allows users to browse paintings by century, artist, and name, which is perfect for those who are looking for something specific or just perusing. It’s incredibly intuitive and easy to use, and there’s consistent quality between paintings.

Where the fun begins is when you press the handy HD button at the bottom of the screen. You might not notice a difference between standard definition and high definition at first, but if you’re someone who enjoys looking at fine details, you’ll fall in love with Metropolitan HD.

When viewing the HD version of a painting, you can zoom in and see incredible detail and quality, making the experience of viewing these paintings even better.

Perfect for art lovers, students, and the occasional browser, Metropolitan HD is one of the best gallery apps I’ve seen. From hands-free slideshows to a built-in classical music player for added ambiance, it’s hard to refrain from losing yourself in this wonderful digital art gallery. Users can even download all 1500 paintings onto their device, which is perfect for owners of WiFi-only devices.

Metropolitan HD is packed with little features that make a big difference as far as usability. For example, users can easily populate a list of their favorite paintings just by pressing the star at the top of a painting.

Personally I feel that this is the most valuable feature Metropolitan HD offers because 1500 paintings can be pretty difficult to sort through.

What about saving paintings or sharing them with others? Metropolitan HD allows users to not only save paintings to their iDevice’s camera roll, but the app even allows you to email paintings to others and share them via popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Usually this is something that’s not available in other art apps, and I’m pleased to see that it’s very easy to share art with others without having to jump through hoops to do so.

Metropolitan HD is available to download from the App Store for only $0.99 (regularly $1.99). There’s also a free version of Metropolitan HD available to download, but the paid version is an unbeatable steal considering what you’re getting in the app.

This is a limited time price, though, so I definitely recommend downloading the app while you can!
