iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
FastCalc by DifferentApps is designed to provide iOS users with an easy-access, easy-operating calculator at the tip of their fingers. Sold through the iTunes Store for $2.99, FastCalc’s interface is created to be much more efficient than that of the traditional built-in iOS calculator.
Like its name suggests, FastCalc’s purpose is to improve users’ ease in performing mathematical calculations on their chosen iOS devices.
With large buttons, FastCalc’s interface is perfect for anyone who finds that he/she regularly accidentally hits the wrong numbers on the iOS calculator.
First time users will definitely want to check out the offline help videos that are included in the “About” section of the app; while most of the app’s features are rather intuitive, the fact that this app is still different from the regular iOS calculator means that some users will certainly benefit from the feature explanations provided in the help videos.
Other features in FastCalc include the ability to change the keyboard and display colors, the option to set how many decimal places calculations should be made to, and a memory feature that allows users to see previously inputted numbers.
FastCalc also can be used to quickly calculate percentages—a great feature for anyone trying to figure out how much tax will be on an item or how much to tip at a restaurant.
Appearance and Layout:
Since this app was designed for the intended purpose of improving upon the ease of using the regular iOS calculator, it would seem logical for it to have a great layout.
FastCalc certainly does not disappoint. As mentioned previously, all of the buttons are easy to use, and personalizing settings on the app can also be easily accomplished.
Perhaps one of the “display features” that really sets FastCalc apart from the regular iOS calculator is its constant display of the operations in place for the current calculation; this feature is particularly helpful, as it allows users to easily determine if they’ve made a manual error in their calculations.
At $2.99 for an app that largely simply increases ease in use of a feature already provided for free in iOS devices, FastCalc’s price seems to be a bit high.
While its features and interface are great and show thoughtful design, many iOS users still will find it hard to justify purchasing this app. However, for someone who finds the need to regularly perform calculations on his iOS device, FastCalc may still be seen as worth the investment.
FastCalc iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
