EnigmBox – Solve puzzles and think outside the box
iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
A lot of times, mobile games these days require the same fundamentals: tap to jump, swipe left and right to move and shake to restart.
True to its name, EnigmBox challenges you to think outside of the box, beyond just swipes and taps.
Concept and Functionality:
EnigmBox is a game unlike any other. Though the rules are simple in that you have to solve puzzles in order to collect the heart in each level, the game itself is nothing short of challenging.
Instead of following directions, you have to figure out how to pass each level by using all of your iPhone’s functionalities. Despite how crazy it might seem to use your volume controls or camera in a game, nothing is off-limits.
This means you can do everything from plug your phone into an outlet or turn on your location service to pass a level.
The first level starts you off easy by having you move leaves off the screen in order to reveal a heart. The next level, on the other hand, presents you with a game of pong without the paddle on the other side. It’s up to you to figure out how to use your phone to continue the game.
As you move along, the game gets increasingly harder but also much more fun, especially when you finally figure out what it takes to obtain a heart in EnigmBox.
Since this game can get pretty tricky, it isn’t a surprise that EngimBox offers hints when you get stuck.
If you don’t feel like paying for anything, you can always unlock puzzles by watching a couple of promotional videos, tweeting about the game, writing a review or liking the page on Facebook.
Otherwise, for $2, you can purchase the Golden Key, which will eliminate in-app ads and give you access to all of the puzzles and bonus tips in the game. And frankly, for a game that always keeps you guessing, it’s worth upgrading.
EnigmBox also incorporates sharing over social media as well as the game center, where you can compete against others in a contests of wit and creative thinking.
I didn’t take this game seriously at first or, rather, I didn’t really know what to think of it at all. With a name like EnigmBox, the game really could’ve been about anything.
But as soon as I started playing, I enjoyed the fact that the game altogether was so refreshingly different from anything I’ve ever played.
When I got to the level where you use your volume controls to pass the level, it was fun fiddling with my phone and trying to figure out what would get that light bulb to go off.
When I did eventually use the volume controls to win, it felt really rewarding, more so than it would feel beating a level in another game. EnigmBox really pushes you to think unconventionally, and this is why I especially recommend this game.
Better start thinking out of the box if you want to win!
EnigmBox Requires iOS 5.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
