iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Great for sharing information like your favorite restaurants and current weather conditions, the possibilities are truly endless when it comes to this innovative social networking app.
Concept and Functionality:
The MotorMouth isn’t the first iPhone app to try and collect real-time information from users with the intent to share. Popular social navigation apps like Waze help to keep travelers in the loop when it comes to traffic conditions and hazards. What if you’re more interested in non-traffic information? That’s where The MotorMouth shines.
The purpose of the app is to allow users to create a short audio clip that’s attached to their GPS location. These clips show up on a map as pins and other users are able to tap on the pin to listen to your recording.
Let’s say you’re having lunch at a tiny little café. The place isn’t well-known, but their sandwiches are to die for. You open The MotorMouth to record a sound clip detailing your favorite meal and a bit of praise for the place, insisting that listeners go out of their way to make the trek there.
In less than a minute you’ve sent out a virtual megaphone to pretty much the entire world, hopefully leading others to discover this hidden gem.
One thing I noticed about The MotorMouth is it seems like many users create sound bites while on the road. Safety is a huge concern and the app is definitely designed to function with minimal input. Buttons are large and easy to see, but always remember to drive the vehicle and not your iPhone. Overall, The MotorMouth has a great design and is very easy to use.
The MotorMouth includes a slew of features that users will find useful. For example, creating an account within the app unlocks the ability to follow other users and ignore users you’re not interested in. You can even create a slimmed down profile that includes a photo, the number of recordings you’ve published, and a link to your personal website.
One of my favorite features, though, is the ability to change the map range of The MotorMouth. You can search your neighborhood or you can listen to clips from around the world. There’s one drawback to this, though, and it’s that you can’t zoom in on a different place and change the range without it zipping back to your current location.
Many pins don’t show up when the range is set to a great distance, and travelers who are looking for pins at their destination won’t be able to narrow their scope. Therefore, I definitely recommend adding the ability to search for specific cities or addresses when looking for sound clips.
The MotorMouth is available to download for free from the App Store and doesn’t include hidden in-app purchases to unlock features. Travelers who are looking to interact with the world around them on a whole new level should definitely check out this innovative social networking app!
The MotorMouth requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
