Swarm of the Dead
iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Are you a zombie sympathizer? Do you shed a tear for every undead critter that always seems to get the short end of the stick (usually in the head)? It’s time for you to take up arms as the commander of a zombie army and fight back against the humans who are trying to cure your “disease”.
Swarm of the Dead, developed by OrionArts, is a brand-new iPhone and iPad game that is sure to spread like the zombie virus itself. From awesomely detailed graphics to great background music and sound effects, you’d be hard-pressed to find something to dislike about Swarm of the Dead.
Concept and Gameplay:
I can honestly say with every shred of sincerity I have that Swarm of the Dead was the hardest game to put down once I started playing it. This has never happened to me before, and I began to wonder if Swarm of the Dead somehow turned me into an iZombie. Yes, it really is that good of a game.
Swarm of the Dead is the opposite of classic castle defense games. Instead of building fortifications and fending off invaders, your goal is to destroy every building and human in each level. You have nine different types of zombies at your disposal, each with its own characteristics.
From Crawlers to Walkers and Manglers, there certainly isn’t a shortage of soldiers to choose from. As you progress through the game, you’ll unlock more zombies to use.
How do you put your undead horde to work? Simply choose a level from the menu, examine the fortifications these doomed humans have established, and strategically release your zombie army upon them. Be careful, though, because you won’t get the zombies back after the level is completed even if they stay alive.
Once the zombies have ravaged the human’s base you’ll see a score of how well you did, how many people you killed, and the number of coins you’ve earned.
In terms of numbers, Swarm of the Dead features over 100 levels of gameplay. This might seem like a lot, but I noticed that the levels go by fairly quickly once you have a sizable zombie horde at your disposal.
As I mentioned before, Swarm of the Dead uses coins is a virtual currency to upgrade the stats of your zombie as well as the maximum capacity you can have of each type.
Also worth mentioning is the fact that the zombies are on a respawn timer. This means you need to allow time between levels so that zombies can be trained. If you don’t feel like waiting, you can spend brains to finish training or you can purchase the Z-Virus for $2.99 and eliminate respawn time altogether.
Swarm of the Dead can be downloaded from the App Store for free and there are quite a few different in app purchases you have the option of buying. The game does include ads, but they’re completely optional and watching them will reward you with brains.
Overall, Swarm of the Dead is an absolute pleasure to play and will certainly be a hit!
Swarm of the Dead requires iOS 4.3 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
