Over the years, we’ve reviewed enough bad cloud storage applications to feel fairly underwhelmed when one rolls across our desk. Perhaps this is why we were so wonderfully unenthused when faced with reviewing younity, from Entangled Media Corp., for iPhone, iPad and Desktop.

That being said, now that we’ve had some time to sink our teeth into it, we can tell you beyond a doubt that younity is the perfect cloud, perhaps the best we have ever seen. We’re hardcore DropBox fans, but this may just be enough to sway our opinion. If that as your interest, then continue downward to read our entire review.

Concept and Functionality

We’re going to mention how younity is setup before we go any further: Firstly, you’ll need to install the application on your computer at home. This can be either a Mac or Windows machine, both are fine. After that, you need to install the iOS application. Once that’s done, here’s what happens—and it’s downright magical.

Younity will scan all of the files in your computer’s personal folder (or wherever you told it to look); music, photos, videos, emails, documents—literally everything. Then, you can access the whole pastiche directly from your iPhone.

We’re going to let that sink in for a moment.

As the people behind younity have put it, they want to make devices irrelevant. Why should it matter where you are when you’re trying to get ahold of your media? With the app in tow, and a steady scan of your data, you’ll never be without anything. Ever again.

And that’s not only scary, it’s perhaps one of the bravest moves we’ve seen in personal cloud storage in a very long time.

Design and Interface

Now, absolutely all of this would fall to bits if the interface younity is supporting sucked. Thankfully, it just doesn’t: It’s jam-packed with beautiful icons, easy to manage lists, colorful headers, smooth textures, and even that sliding menu thing that we love so much (and wish would stick around in iOS 7, Every App We Just Updated).

It’s clear that the developers have put a lot of effort into creating a UX that’s fluid and user friendly. And during our experience with it, we can’t help but love it a lot.

Overall Value

Here’s where younity stops making sense—and we can’t get enough of it. There are no size limitations. There are currently no device limits. There is no charge whatsoever, and there’s no caveat. You can have everything we’ve discussed, without any roadblocks, completely for free.

That is incredible, and if you’re hesitating, think about this: younity may not always keep things this way, but for now, this is easily the best bargain you’ll find anywhere for cloud storage. If you’re not willing to at least download it and give it a go during its current state, we cannot help you.

Because younity is truly incredible.

Younityyounity requires iOS 5.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
