iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
There are plenty of occasions when consistent GPS tracking can be useful. Examples include keeping an eye on a child when they’re out and about with friends, tracking your friends on a hike, or even mapping a new running route. The trouble with most of the apps that offer this service, though, is that they tend to constantly use your GPS, killing your device’s battery at a very rapid rate.
Locator365, developed by NewApp365, is a great tool for tracking the whereabouts of an iPhone and/or iPad in real time without constant use of your GPS. If you’re serious about GPS tracking, this is an app that’s worth a look.
Concept and Functionality:
Anyone who navigates the App Store on a regular basis is well aware of the fact that there isn’t a shortage of GPS apps available. Whether it’s navigation or exercise, you can almost always find the perfect app for your needs. However, most of the apps available require constant use of the GPS to function.
Locator365 breaks the mold in terms of tracking because it can track your device using timed intervals specified by you.
To get started, you need to create a Locator365 account. This account stores all of the devices you’ve associated with it and allows you to use the free Locator365 Manager app. Once your account is created, you can begin tracking your device(s) immediately. You’ll be able to see your current location on the map, as well as any GPS points that have been recorded.
The next step is to visit Locator365′s settings and specify the query interval. This allows you to keep the app open in the background so it can request your location at specific times. The interval options range from three minutes to an hour with plenty of times in between. Once the query time is set, you can close the app and resume your activity.
Locator365 includes quite a few features that make it even more useful. One of the most helpful features is the Emergency tab, which allows you to contact someone with the touch of a button. Be sure to set up your emergency contacts in the app’s settings first, though, as that’s where Locator365 will pull contact information from. You can specify a phone number, multiple email addresses and SMS numbers, and even connect the app with Facebook and Twitter.
Another Locator365 feature is the ability to go back in time and see where your device was at a specific time. You can do this by performing a location or date search. The Location Query search allows you to input a specific date, while the Date Query shows you a list of all dates when a GPS position was recorded.
Locator365 can be downloaded from the App Store for $4.99 and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad. While it’s a great app for tracking a device’s whereabouts over a specific period of time, the use of a data cloud and an online account can be dangerous.
Remember, the free Locator365 Manager app only requires your username and password, so anyone with this information can easily login to the free app and see your GPS data from your associated devices. Therefore, I strongly recommend using strong passwords and making sure you know who has access to your log in information so you can manage Locator365 with caution in regards to your privacy.
Locator365 is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 6.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
