Over the years, we’ve had a lot of opportunity to view the creme of the crop where iPhone photography applications are concerned. But just when we thought we couldn’t find another new concept, one happens to plop itself down upon our desk.

Yes, we’ve never seen anything quite like GlassCamera, from Tech BLA Solutions Pvt ltd, on the iPhone, anyway—and though it’s not quite perfection, it’s still more than engaging enough to warrant a look. The app makes it easy to add a unique glass-like effect to your photographs, which can then be shared to your favorite social networks.

For more information, you need only to slide on down below the break.

Concept and Functionality

So what’s GlassCamera sporting? As stated, it’s more or less a filter photography app for the iPhone, though with a very unique focus. You see, the app begins by giving you a variety of frames to work with.

These frames simulate glass panels and shifts, which you can apply to your waking world simply by snapping a photo. You can also apply a casual warp effect simply by sliding the bar at the bottom.

Easy enough right? You’ll get a wealth of options here, as well as a number of color filters on the flip side. Don’t expect your usual “Nashville” filters here, though. Instead, you’ll get an entire menagerie designed to give your photos an incredibly unique glass-like texture and feel.

It’s cool stuff, and though we weren’t fans of all our creations, you can certainly get some miraculous results with just a little effort. At the very least, it’s a more inventive approach than most filter applications theses days.

Design and Layout

In fact, our only real complaint with the app comes in the form of its layout and design. Simply put, it’s just not as slick as a lot of the other photography applications out there. Then again, GlassCamera is newer on the scene, and a lot of its problems are purely aesthetic.

With some better icons—May we suggest moving to flat design with iOS 7?—and a little more emphasis on ease of use (the spread around the picture frame is good, but a better solution exists in a sidebar) GlassCamera could be quite lovely.

Overall Value

Keeping all of that in mind, though, it’s quite hard to knock the value that GlassCamera is sporting. For only a buck you can enjoy all that it has to offer. And if this happens to be your favorite form of artistic expression on the iPhone, obviously you’ll get a ton of use out of it.

For those who are somewhere in the middle, it’s a great value with a cool premise, and a lot of fun inherently stored within.

GlassCameraGlassCamera requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
