iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
It’s dark. You hear the sounds of saws whirring and gears spinning, but you can hardly see a thing. There’s nowhere else to go, so you have to continue on, hoping that you’ll make it out alive.
Thank goodness it’s just a game. Brave Bit, from developer Rakesh Ram, is a thrilling die-and-try game full of different twists and turns. You play as a small bit trying to navigate through a maze that is laden with anything from cannons and falling spikes to rockets and electric fences.
Concept and Functionality: [Rating: 4/5]
The objective of the game is simple. Using the on-screen controls, guide your brave little bit through the level and collect the orbs that are floating in the air in order to move on. Despite how easy the game sounds, however, it’s actually very challenging.
Timing, foresight and patience are the keys to successfully getting through Brave Bit. Move ahead just a couple of seconds too early and be prepared for your bit to get chopped up or knocked over. If you don’t watch out for what’s ahead of you, don’t expect to make it through the level. Because every move you make is crucial, it’s inevitable that you’ll get frustrated when making mistakes. But once you get the strategy in each game down, your patience will be rewarded with more exciting levels.
Starting from the home page, Brave Bit already presents itself as an ominous game. The theme music playing in the background is chilling and quiet, and the color scheme of the app itself is mostly grey and black. Despite all of this, in the same vein, the game is also kind of cute.
The main character – your bit – is pretty adorable in that it’s perfectly blocky and small. The artistry that complements the rest of the game is minimal but delightfully cartoonish.
As for features, there really aren’t too many. You only have three ways you can go in the game: left, right or up. Yet, in a way, this limitation in controls is what makes the game even better. You don’t have to worry about swiping or flicking or making any fancy finger movements.
The controls are already on the screen, so you can spend most of your energy pondering your next move.
Brave Bit is a game that’s fun because it tests your patience. There are a lot of games out there that get boring quickly because they’re very easy. But don’t worry – Brave Bit will have you occupied for hours on end with 30 different levels, in addition to levels in new worlds that are released every season.
If you’re into casual games that make you think, Brave Bit is a good start. And with eerily realistic sounds of chainsaws and gears in Brave Bit, this game is especially perfect for the Halloween season that’s just around the corner.
But let’s be honest – Brave Bit is a great game for any time of the year.
Brave Bit is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 5G. Requires iOS 6.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
