iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Shiny Pearls by De Alejandro Becerra de Mier is a unique game that provides players with multiple puzzle game challenges. While the basic version of Shiny Pearls is currently available for free through the iTunes Store. You can play the entire game for free or access to the complete version of the app right away by purchasing it for $2.99.
Shiny Pearls features a friendly-looking octopus-like cartoon character who is faced with multiple challenges in order to complete various levels. Completing levels is dependent upon the goals set forth for each option; for instance, making combinations of certain colored stars or “rescuing” relatives of your hero-octopus are among the challenges presented in Shiny Pearls.
More advanced (or simply more puzzle-minded) users will probably be attracted to the boss-based challenges that pit players against up to 15 bosses during a series of fun algorithms. This app offers five different worlds and the almost 20 different achievements to unlock, so it should provide users with plenty of entertainment (particularly when the full version is purchased).
Directions for how to play each different challenge series in Shiny Pearls are provided for first time players, and these instructions are easy to understand and follow. Shiny Pearls boasts of being an app that is unique in the variety of puzzle challenges that it presents players, and while playing this game I found this boast to actually be true.
Each challenge is unique from the last and takes a bit of skill to master.
Appearance and Layout:
Both the layout and the appearance of Shiny Pearls are excellent. First time users are introduced to varying skills necessary to the game through slides that teach them what they need to do to pass each level.
Navigating through Shiny Pearls is also simple to do with icons displayed at the beginning/end of each level in a challenge set, and the timing bar in time-sensitive levels is also pretty easy to locate and understand.
The graphics for Shiny Pearls are also perfect for it, and users should have no difficulty in determining the identity of any of the characters in Shiny Pearls.
Shiny Pearls is a fun app, and the variations in the app may be seen as worthy of being purchased by some dedicated fans. However, we should note that the entire game can be played for free or, if you like, you can pay $2.99 if you don’t want to earn all the necessary stars. At $2.99 it seems like somewhat of a steep price for a completed version of a game, especially since many Shiny Pearls players will probably just play to earn all the stars with the free version of the app.
Overall, Shiny Pearls is a fun game app, but it seems difficult to imagine its features drawing in the majority of users into actually purchasing the full version.
Shiny Pearls iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
