SharpScan: rapidly scan multipage documents into clean PDF
iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
SharpScan is an app designed by Pixelnetica that is promised to help users “rapidly scan multiple documents into clean PDF.” The basic version of SharpScan is available for free through the iTunes store, but anyone who wants to remove the app’s watermark must pay $2.99 for this ability.
Like its name indicates, SharpScan is an app that allows users to quickly and easily create PDFs from images they snap on their chosen iOS devices. These photos are converted to PDFs with a watermark of the app that can be removed for a small fee.
After an initial image is captured using SharpScan, users can select what part they’d like to create the PDF document from, and this file is then generated within seconds. Before finalizing the file, however, users can also adjust the contrast/shadows in order to optimize the appearance of the final product.
Final products can then be exported via Dropbox or email so that users can actually easily access the documents they’ve just created. Other features in SharpScan include the option to protect PDFs with passwords and fully customizable page sizes.
While using SharpScan myself, I found it to be all that it’s promised to be. The documents I created while testing the app were of solid quality, despite being created on my iOS device. The minimal file sizes used did not diminish the quality of the overall product.
Appearance and Layout:
First time users are offered the option of going through an instructional tutorial for this app. Bits of advice for users are featured throughout the app as well. Using SharpScan is an extremely efficient and streamlined process, and the icons used to represent each function in the app are fairly standard for iOS devices.
I appreciated the layout of SharpScan, as it allowed for the process of creating a PDF to be just as quick and easy as promised. Additionally, while graphics of SharpScan are definitely fairly minimal, this approach to the design of the app does not detract from the quality of the app itself. In fact, having minimal graphics probably also assists with making SharpScan an extremely easy to navigate app.
SharpScan is currently available for free through the iTunes store, and the watermark-removal feature costs just under $3. As an app, SharpScan is definitely an excellent option for anyone who regularly needs to create PDF documents from already existing materials; the combination of good quality and a fast processing time in SharpScan is definitely not over exaggerated.
SharpScan iPhone app requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
