iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
While most people tend to upload photos to Facebook and forget about them, there are so many awesome services available that allow you to do much more. You can make a shirt, magnet, or even a mouse pad. However, there’s one common household item that never really gets any love. The time has come for that to change!
Concept and Functionality:
If you’re thinking that Lampagram has something to do with fancy lighting filters for your photos, you’d be incorrect. Trust me, that was my first impression, as well. Lampagram is actually an app that allows you to design custom lampshades using your photos on your iPhone. That’s right, you can now build your own custom lamp from scratch.
I was surprised to see how easy Lampagram makes it to create your lamp. To start, you need to select the photo you want to use on your lampshade. As usual, you can choose from either your iPhone camera roll or you can take a photo within the app. The next screen allows you to crop your photo or rotate it. After that, you need to choose the layout of your photo on the lampshade and the color of the lampshade itself.
Luckily there are a ton of colors to choose from, so even the pickiest of people shouldn’t have a hard time finding a color they like.
Finally, Lampagram gives you the option to add 48 characters of text on the lampshade. The last step is to choose the base of your lamp and fill out the order information. A custom lamp with either of the two bases will cost you $24.95. If you only want to order a custom lampshade, it’ll be $14.95. Shipping varies based on the service you select (FedEx, USPS, or Super Saver Free).
From a wide variety of lampshade colors to custom text and photo placement options, Lampagram really makes the process of creating a custom lamp darn near painless. When you think about it, the end result doesn’t break the bank, either. Many apps with a similar concepts tend to be clunky and disorganized thanks to customization overload, but Lampagram is easy to navigate and very straightforward.
As far as suggestions for improvements, one thing I was disappointed to see was a lack of font options for custom text. It seems like everything else available can be customized, while text got the short end of the lamp pole. Also, another feature I’d love to see is the ability to save lamp designs as drafts so you can come back and customize or order your lamp at a later time.
Lampagram is available to download for free from the App Store and, as I mentioned above, the price you pay for an actual lamp or lampshade varies on your customization options and method of shipping.
In all, I think the idea of the custom lampshade is pretty darn cool. I can definitely see this is something anyone can have fun with, especially people who love to do unique things with their photos.
Lampagram is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
