iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
From filters to cropping, there are countless capabilities for photo apps out there. And just when you thought that there couldn’t be another camera app to download, think again. With PowerCam™, developed by Wondershare Software, you get the social, artistic and customization capabilities for photos all in one app.
Concept and Functionality:
Wondershare’s PowerCam™ revolves around making photos extra-shareable. From the homepage, you can choose to take a photo or video, edit those photos, open your gallery of photos or make a collage.
If you’re worried about how a photo might come out using filters, PowerCam™ lets you switch between more than 70+ effects/filters within the camera. And if you find a couple of filters you like, there’s an option to save those filters for future use.
It’s also worth noting that these effects have a live preview function so you can see what the effect looks like before taking the pic. This is one of the distinguishing features of this app and a solid reason to check out this app.
When you finish snapping photos, you can enhance aspects of your photos including sharpness, brightness, contrast, saturation. There are also other effects to help enhance and even distort photos for fun.
In addition to all of the app’s editing capabilities, PowerCam™ also offers extensive options for making photo collages. There are three types of collages to choose from: template, which formats photos into a certain order; free, which allows you to move photos around on digital cardstock; join, which stitches photos together into a photo booth-like strips.
When putting these collages together, you not only get to choose where photos go, but also the styles of the borders and backgrounds, with something for just about any occasion or holiday. Want to make a collage for going back to school? Want to add a colorful border? PowerCam™ has it all.
There is no end to the features that PowerCam™ comes with. Aside from the usual social network for sharing such as Facebook and Twitter, PowerCam also lets you share photos through apps like Flickr, Instagram and even WeChat.
Because you can choose to edit photos within the camera as well as in a separate section, sometimes all of the choices can be overwhelming. It’s easy to overlook the extra options when editing unless you click through every button. But once you get the hang of it, the app becomes more intuitive.
PowerCam™ is looking to be your new default camera app. With the ability to add filters in camera and video modes, you can test out what looks best beforehand, unlike a lot of other camera apps. However, though there are a lot of filters to choose from, there were only a handful I would consistently use. The choices for effects within the app tend to be somewhat over-the-top, but if you’re using the app more for fun than for seriously photography, these filters are perfect.
Though PowerCam™ allows users to record videos, the capabilities are more limited. Nevertheless, the fact that you can put filters on videos and export them to your camera roll in addition to your various social media feeds is still impressive.
Overall, PowerCam™ is great for people who love customization and digital scrapbooking. The app takes a little time to get used to, but it’s worth it, considering all of the great features that are available for less than a dollar.
PowerCam™ is compatible with with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.1 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
