iPhone Game Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
X-Rainbow, developed by Ludimate, is a brand-new puzzle game that will have you addicted in no time flat. Get ready to save the rainbow, folks! If you enjoy playing games like Peggle and Bubble Shooter, you’re in for a real treat.
Concept and Gameplay:
In X-Rainbow, your duty is to save the colors of the rainbow by destroying colored blocks. Dr. Darko, the evil mastermind who froze the blocks, will do whatever it takes to keep you from succeeding. Even if it means placing complicated obstacles in your path. The best part? The higher the level, the harder it is to complete.
To destroy blocks, carefully pull your finger across the screen to aim your ball. If you’ve played Angry Birds, it’s pretty much the same exact concept. X-Rainbow’s excellent physics engine takes care of the rest, and you can watch your ball jump across the screen, destroying blocks along the way. Unlike Angry Birds and Peggle, you’re not limited to the number of balls you can release. Each ball takes a point away from your total score. Plus, if you tap multiple times while releasing a ball, you’ll send a wave of little rainbow freedom fighters into the air.
Even though puzzle games are great, it’s no fun when they’re too difficult to complete. X-Rainbow isn’t impossible to play at higher levels even with crazy obstacles, which makes it a challenging but enjoyable game to play. You’ll get frustrated at times, but no difficulty is too great when it comes to saving the colors of the rainbow!
X-Rainbow is extremely straightforward and easy to play, which means it’s pretty light on extra features. However, this also means all 70 levels can be completed without annoying ads or distractions. Plus you can easily go back and revisit completed levels for an improved score.
However, there are a few features missing that I think would make the game even more enjoyable. First, I feel Game Center is a must because it’s fun to challenge friends. Also, I think X-Rainbow is the perfect game for achievements because there’s so much you can do in the game. From high scores to completing every stage, an app can never have too many achievements.
Lastly, I wish the background story was more than just a short blurb on the app’s iTunes page. It’s rare to find a puzzle game with purpose, so I was super disappointed to see that X-Rainbow didn’t include anything about Dr.Darko and his evil scheme. I think the story is great, and it really needs to be represented in the game.
X-Rainbow is available to download from the App Store for $0.99 and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad. I definitely recommend it for anyone who is looking for a fun puzzle game that’s as exciting and challenging as searching for a rainbow after a storm.
X-Rainbow is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
