iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
We like iOS as a platform for a number of reasons, however, none more than it’s own ability to change our lives. Or rather, to change those with a little bit more focus and learning potential. What are we talking about? In essence, we’re talking about having the entire world (or what feels like it, anyway) of biomedical knowledge right there on your iPhone or iPad. This is the power that PubChase, from ZappyLab, provides you. And with a whole lot of initiative, or a career focus, the implications of the app’s easy-breezy interface are simply marvelous.
Concept and Functionality
We’re getting a misty-eyed here, so let’s take a step back to more properly explain the mechanics of PubChase. It is not an app about drinking—as we initially thought—but rather one designed to make the wealth of online biomedical publications readily available to you, the user. All one needs is an iPad or iPhone, PubChase (which is completely free) and a desire to look.
Boot up the app, pick a category from the sliding panel along the left side, and that’s it! Users are free to click on any of the listed articles, search for specific topics, and even save items they like as PDFs to their libraries. For this you will need a PubChase account, which is hardly a downer: This connectivity ensures that you keep a synced record of your articles across all mobile devices, as well as your desktop.
In our experience with PubChase, we also found the bevy of information included quite astounding. The app is not picky, and pools together a vast repository for its users to draw from. And with clearly defined categories and searching mechanisms—as well as a “best for you” suggestion engine—there’s no reason in the world you can’t keep up to date and learning with PubChase.
Design and Interface
With this sort of specialty application, we don’t tend to expect much in terms of UX design. That being said, we quite pleasantly had our socks knocked off. PubChase is a stunningly modern app with some cool, touch-oriented inclusions, as well as a very easy-to-read layout. We had no trouble at all perusing articles, so much so that we hardly noticed the application at all. This is a high mark for design, and at the end of the day, it only makes this wonderful product that much simpler to learn from.
We mentioned earlier that PubChase is completely free, a point we’d like to reiterate. With that in mind, considering the app won’t cost you a penny to use (or benefit from) this isn’t a reason in the world those with an inclusion shouldn’t download it immediately. It’s a beautiful title and a fabulous entry into the genre of medical literature on iOS. In other words, consider it a bearer of our blessing.
PubChase requires iOS 6.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
