Math is Easy
iPad App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Concept and Functionality:
If you’re like me, just the mere thought of math is enough to send shivers down your spine. The subject definitely wasn’t my favorite, nor was it my best. Why not save your child the same frustration by teaching them to enjoy math at an early age?
Math is Easy is a simple, yet fun app not only allows kids to practice different formulas, but it has quite a few useful features that also make it a great educational tool.
One thing I do want to mention is the fact that it took me a few minutes to figure out how to use Math is Easy. However, the main menu is very clean and simple. Almost too much so. The lack of a quick tutorial meant spending more time than needed to figure out how to start answering math problems.
Once kids find the equation screen, the real fun begins. Problems are displayed on a chalkboard and kids must use the number pad to enter in the solution. The app will then show whether or not their answer was correct, and will move onto the next equation if it is.
Math is Easy, though very useful and educational, needs a bit more to be a truly successful app. If I could use one adjective to describe it, it would be flat. It feels more like a school textbook than a fun iPad app, which is why it might not be a big hit with children. However, the app definitely succeeds as far as being a one stop shop for practicing equations.
Every mathematical operation is represented, meaning young children won’t outgrow the app when advancing from simple addition and subtraction to multiplication and division.
As I mentioned before, Math is Easy has a few useful features that aren’t immediately obvious. First, parents will love the History page, which shows a list of all the equations that have been answered.
You can see whether their answer was right or wrong, giving you insight as to whether or not they’re struggling with a particular problem. I do wish that the History section contained a bit more info to provide parents with even more information about their child’s learning process. This includes displaying data in a chart or graph format and providing a quick list of frequently incorrect problems.
Math is Easy also includes a useful reference sheet for multiplication times tables so children can easily access it. Again, this is yet another feature that needs to be improved. Perhaps including a quick way to practice times table equations would make the section a bit less boring.
After all, most young children aren’t accustomed to the fine art of studying, and instead learn better by doing.
Math is Easy is available to download for $0.99 from the App Store and is universally compatible with iPad and iPhone. Even though it needs a bit of help as far as design and improvement on existing features, it’s still a great educational app that’s very useful and functional.
Math is Easy is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
