iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
UNOIT, developed by Diethard Seiferth, is a new education app that allows you to store flashcards and optionally make them appear at a specific time or location. Whether you’re a college student, a professional, or just someone who needs to learn and remember new things on a routine basis, this is definitely a great app to have.
Concept and Functionality:
UNOIT is pleasantly simple and easy to use thanks to a clean interface that isn’t loaded with fluff. You can easily import and create new flashcard lessons right from the app’s main screen. From what I can tell, there isn’t a maximum number of flashcards you can have in each lesson, which is great for anyone who needs to remember plenty of things. To start a lesson, simply tap on its name and you’ll immediately see a card from it. Pressing the question mark at the bottom of the screen reveals the answer and it’s up to the user to mark whether or not they got the question correct.
While this might sound like using flashcards manually, there’s a really cool aspect about UNOIT that really comes in handy. You can choose to receive a new card from a specific lesson at a certain point in time or even a location. As I mentioned earlier, this is perfect for college students because you can make a card pop up when you’re near an academic building. You could show up a half hour early for an exam and everything you’d need to study would be right there on your iPhone.
Now you’re thinking that it’d be way too time consuming to enter every bit of information into UNOIT via iPhone, so it’s a waste. No way! The app comes with multiple ways to import questions via a CSV file. You can email the file to yourself as an attachment or even connect the app to Dropbox for super easy importing.
UNOIT is definitely one of those special apps that has more features than you’d initially thought. The geolocation feature is nothing short of genius, which is why it’s definitely my favorite and really makes the app shine through as the ideal study app for students. The same goes for a job interview or arriving somewhere that you have to present a speech or something of the like.
Also, UNOIT operates under the idea of repetitive learning, meaning you’ll need to answer questions correctly many times in order for the card to be “learned”. Each card has a progress bar at the top that roughly shows how many times you’ve learned the material, giving you a good idea as to what you need to study.
UNOIT can be downloaded from the App Store for $1.99 and is definitely worth the price for anyone who likes to study material using flashcards. Even though the app could use a little tweaking here and there, students and professionals alike will certainly enjoy it.
UNOIT is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 6.1 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
