Throw With Joe
iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
We’ve seen a lot of games in our time. Some had a good concept, others had a good exterior. Some arrived on our door with a good price, and yet others arrived with phenomenal content. All of this just to say that we’ve finally found an app that combines engaging gameplay, a fun package, and a (very, very) worthy cause. The app is called Throw With Joe, and it’s put out by Joint Juice in conjunction with American football legend Joe Montana. The app raises awareness for arthritis (both juvenile and elderly) while also providing us with hours of addictive gameplay. For our full review of this title, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
To start off with, you should know what Throw With Joe is backing. As stated, the app is meant to provide support to the The Arthritis Foundation, which helps to promote the well-being of the 300,000 children in the USA living with arthritis. If you were unaware, arthritis is a condition not just limited to the elderly. In fact, those near and dear to our heart are struck with the disease. All in all, this means that the dollar you’ll spend on the app goes directly toward research, health care and support for those in need.
But what’s Joe Montana’s name doing on the app? Well, as he’s the spokesperson for Joint Juice, you’ll not be surprised to find a football inspired game at the heart of the title. The game itself is a classic arcade concept, and one that’s quite addictive. Joe—presumably, anyway—tosses the ball, which you must then guide up the field. You’ll need to dodge opponents, collect boosts, and get as far as you can before being caught. The higher you go, the more points you’ll get. It’s fun, invigorating, and built from the ground up for a worthy cause.
Graphics and Design
Believe us or not, the title actually looks pretty great, too! It’s got a cutesy cartoon style that’s accessible to both children and parents alike. Furthermore, the controls are bloody simple, requiring very little input. That input you do provide, however, is registered instantly and efficiently. The game itself relies on a simple, repetitive concept, but despite several play throughs, we have yet to get bored with it. This bodes well for hours spent waiting in a queue, or during the morning commute.
Naturally, the game is a phenomenal value. It will only cost you a dollar, 100% of which will go toward support Arthritis research and aide. With that in mind, we’d be down right silly if we didn’t recommend the app. It’s fun, well put together, and for a wholesome cause. At the end of the day, you really just can’t ask for anything more than that.
Throw With Joe requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
