iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
It’s hardly something that we get to discuss much, but we here at the iPhone App Review (myself very much included) don’t just spend our time writing about iPhone innovations and cool new apps. In fact, most of us have been classically trained to produce high-reaching fiction and non-fiction. With that in mind, it’s a real treat for me to bring you a review that combines the best of both those worlds. It’s called Prompts, and it enables you to create works on the iPad and iPhone through clever, and ultimately very rewarding, story prompts. It’s one of the best writing-focused applications we have ever seen, and for our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind Prompts is incredibly simple, but this only adds to the charm that it’s supporting. You see, what happens when you cannot come up with a good concept for a short piece or even a whole novel? Oftentimes, writers will simply remain blocked until eventual inspiration strikes.
But why? asks Prompts. The minute the app is booted up, it presents you with a blank page, and a very short sentence starter to get you rolling. We expected these items to be cliched and trite, but in all honesty, they immediately started putting some rather stunning ideas into our minds. The app does nothing more than this, too: It doesn’t handhold, nor lead you in a set direction. It just cranks up the car, then lets you ride it into town.
That being said, it also comes with some nifty ancillary features. For instance, it’ll sync up with your DropBox account, allowing you to seamlessly backup your creations. It’ll also give you stats and social media integration, both of which are appreciated.
Design and Interface
Are you ready for the best part about the Prompts? It also looks gorgeous on both the iPhone and iPad. We’re suckers for good-looking apps, especially when we expect to spend a whole lot of time inside them getting some creativity aired out. The app’s interface is excellent, though not obtrusive. Its word processor is simple, but robust enough to enable you to write fluidly. And gosh dern it, but if the thing’s Web 2.0 feel didn’t just hit us right in the design muscle. Really, this is one to enjoy.
If you’re expecting a steep price tag to go along with this functionality, we don’t blame you: Most writing apps are quite dear, though Prompts shirks that by giving itself up for only a buck. Yes, you heard that write—pun intended. With a good mindset and a few hours to kill, Prompts has the real potential to revolutionize the way you write, as well as how much you actually get on the page. Because of this, we simply cannot recommend the title enough.
Prompts requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
