iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Whether you’re a young kid in school, a recent college graduate, or seasoned adult, you can never be too careful about how much you spend. You work hard for the money you earn, and you should work even harder to keep it from burning a hole in your pocket.
Concept and Functionality:
If there’s one thing that drives me nuts about finance apps, it’s the fact that they always seem to be as complicated as the task of keeping track of your money. Some are overdesigned, many are under designed, and very few fall in the middle. My Budgeter seeks to help you by making it less of a chore to keep track of expenses, putting you in control of where your money goes.
When you first open My Budgeter, you’ll need to visit the Settings tab and plan your budget. I was truly surprised to see the number of categories already created in the app. From basic necessities like food and transportation to personal items, healthcare, and entertainment, everything is already entered in the app. Plus there are even more related items under each expense. For example, tapping on the Personal section reveals optional budget amounts for clothing, hygiene, sports, and other items.
Once you’ve figured out a monthly budget you feel you can stick to and you’ve entered everything into My Budgeter, you can manage expenses on the Today tab. To add a new expense, tap on the budget amount on the right side of your screen. You can even add a comment in your entry, which I always recommend. Lastly, you can easily view your monthly expenses in either list format or a handy pie or bar chart.
My Budgeter is loaded with awesome features that will definitely help you stay in control of your money. While the premade list of expenses should be enough to cover everyone’s needs, not all of us are the same. Therefore, I was really relieved to see that the app allows you to create your own categories and even subcategories. You can also turn premade categories off if they don’t apply to your budget.
For users who would like to keep their money matters private, My Budgeter even gives you the option to set a four digit passcode on the app. While you’re hanging around the Settings tab, I definitely recommend creating a daily or weekly reminder to enter the day’s expenses. You might think that manually entering expenses seems a little archaic, but you’d be amazed at how often you’ll catch mistakes on your receipts when you’re tending to them manually.
My Budgeter is available to download for free from the App Store, but your limited to 30 expense entries. To unlock the full potential of the app, you’ll need to dish out $2.99. I can honestly say that this is one of the best budget apps I’ve seen and, even though it requires a little work on your part, it will definitely become your favorite financial companion.
My Budgeter is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
