Over the years, we’ve had the good fortune to see quite a few shopping list applications floating around our desk. Some have been top-of-the-line, while others have been mucking about in the realm of cheap copies and gimmicks. Somewhere in-between those two poles, though much closer to the brilliant side of things, is an application called iShopStop – grocery shopping, from Transparent Flux Ltd. The app is certainly one of the most clearcut, shopping-oriented titles we have ever seen, bringing you more than enough information organization to get the job done. If you’re looking for a simple, minimalistic iPhone shopping app, this might just be your ticket. To find out, read our full review below!
Functionality and Concept
Lately, we’ve been seeing a number of shopping and to-do list applications that have been shooting for the stars. They allow you to scan barcodes to get product information, arrange things by geotagged locations, etc. However, iShopStop forgoes all of this in favor of a much leaner, more direct entry method. The app lets you plugin those items you need, attach a location based on aisle availability, and then chug forward and stay organized. For example, if items are in the wrong order you can easily reorder them and the app remembers that order for next time.
And that’s it! The app is bloody simple, and this can be a real boon for those that could not care less about barcodes and the like. We greatly appreciated the simplicity, though we did find ourselves wanting for a few small additions. Most notably, we’d like a pre-installed bank of items. This would make things easier out of the gate, though as the app remembers items you’ve previously entered, we doubt it’d be a problem for long. Aside from this, we did appreciate the option to email our list to ourselves. It’s an handy one for those of us that frequently forget our phones, and need a bit more exposure.
Design and Interface
However, here’s where things start to get sticky with iShopStop. You see, the app just isn’t one of the best looking titles we’ve ever seen. It’s got a rather standard appearance, and doesn’t offer much by way of graphical niceties—aside from the excellent, color-labelled aisle markers. If it were given a more brand-specific overhaul, and perhaps laid out a bit more smoothly, we would be more than willing to up the app’s points here. Until then, iShopStop is still quite a generic outing.
iShopStop also happens to cost a great deal more than we might expect the common reader to pay. At just shy of four bucks, it’s not a cheap app. And considering its approach is less-is-more, which typically offers a price reduction, it’s not exactly a recommendable expenditure. Still, if you’re looking for a reduced way to go shopping, iShopStop is easily in contention. And as future updates iron out more functionality, we may yet have a solid winner on our hands.
