iPhone App Review by TheiPhoneAppReview.com
Your iDevice is capable of so many things that it’s hard to imagine life without it. From exercise to work, iPhones, iPads, and iPods are used for almost everything imaginable. Once in awhile something completely new comes along that allows your device to do something completely different.
Concept and Functionality:
While Diamond Scale might seem like just another gimmick app that’s more of a novel concept than something that might be useful, it definitely has its practical uses. Whether you need to weigh jewelry, coins, or something else that’s fairly lightweight, this app claims to allow you to do so quickly and easily.
To use Diamond Scale properly, first you’ll need to use an iDevice with a decent gyroscope and an inflatable bag. Chips, a ziplock bag, or perhaps even a small pillow should work just fine. Place your device on top of the bag and press the Calibrate button. After you’ve completed these steps, you should be able to place an object on your device and see its weight on the scale.
While Diamond Scale seems simple and easy to use, I must admit that I had a fairly difficult time trying to not only figure out how to use it properly, but to also get an accurate weight measurement. I’m sure the app works well after you get the hang of it, but I quickly became too frustrated with not getting consistent measurements on the same object.
Of all the things Diamond Scale could do, I was disappointed to see just how limited the app is. There’s only one screen, which is the scale and instructions. There are quite a few features I’d like to see in the app. First, a history of items weight would be perfect for anyone who needs to keep track of multiple items. Even better, it would be awesome if users could take a photo of an item and attach it to a log in the history section.
Also, I found the analog scale to be difficult to read and would definitely recommend the option to have weights displayed digitally. This would not only help to make readings faster, but is perfect for things that need to be measured to the nearest hundredth.
Diamond Scale can be downloaded from the App Store for $2.99 and is universally compatible with both iPhone and iPad. The price is a little high for an app that’s this tricky to use, though, and hopefully there’ll be a free and limited app available so users know what to expect before shelling out that much for an app.
Diamond Scale is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
