Twisted Ways: Written iPhone Game Review
iPhone puzzle games are never short in supply, and new ones are published to the App Store every single day. As someone who’s more of an adventure gamer, I’m proud to say there’s one particular puzzle game that I truly enjoy playing.
Twisted Ways, developed by Stanislav Fedorov, is an incredibly addicting puzzle game for iPhone. Featuring great graphics and brain teasing gameplay, this is one game you’ll be lost in for hours and hours.
Concept and Gameplay:
Twisted Ways definitely adds a spin to the iPhone puzzle game genre. The concept of the game is to help your kangaroo friend navigate the playing field. Essentially you have to help him reach the ladder that takes them to the next level. Of course this sounds like a fairly easy game, but that’s only because I haven’t mentioned the fact that the tiles on the floor rotate in different directions when your kangaroo friend steps on them.
These individual blocks can only be stepped on if you’re entering from a side with an arrow on it. The same goes for exiting blocks. If you cross a green block, it will rotate 90° to the right. Blue blocks rotate 90° to the left, and yellow blocks rotate 180°. Red blocks are the only ones that don’t rotate when stepped on.
One of the things I really like about Twisted Ways is the fact that it’s very easy to lose focus and get trapped. This is definitely one game that requires your full attention and concentration because one little misstep can force you to restart the level again.
Twisted Ways features familiar level layout of popular puzzle games like Angry Birds. There are two different worlds containing 25 individual levels apiece. The only thing that disappointed me about the game as there’s a lack of score tracking. The game is linked with Game Center, but it looks like the game only reports your cumulative score. I definitely think built-in scorekeeping would come in handy, especially for players who consistently strive to improve their score.
Another thing I’d like to mention is that Twisted Ways might look familiar to some of our regular readers. I wrote a review on the game when it first came out, so I wanted to mention a few key changes that were added in the latest update. First, the size of the puzzle tiles was increased to make it easier to read arrows. There were also a couple of gameplay enhancements and performance improvements. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like any new levels have been added since the game was released, which was over two months ago.
Twisted Ways can be downloaded from the App Store for only $0.99. However, if you’re not yet ready to take the plunge and purchase the game, there’s also a free version available with a few limitations. I definitely recommend Twisted Ways for anyone who’s looking to challenge themselves with a fun puzzle game.
Twisted Ways is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
