Implode 3D HD: Written & Video iPad App Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we really like any game that can test our mettle, provide us with a unique experience, and leave us feeling more satisfied than a millionaire on the week-end. With that in mind, we’ve got a brand new puzzler with a twist to throw your direction. It’s called Implode 3D HD, from Renatus Media LLC, and it offers perhaps one of the more inventive ideas we’ve seen in a while. It’s a blast to play—if you’ll pardon the pun—and if you’re looking for a new challenge to play with in the queue, you need only to slide on down below the break to find our full review.
Concept and Gameplay
If you couldn’t tell from the title, the concept behind Implode 3D HD is explosive in nature—literally! The game has you placing charges on various structural objects, then firing them off to demolish everything in the area. If you do it successfully, you’ll clear the level and move onto the next arrangement, and the next challenge. In a lot of ways, it’s like playing Jenga, though some of the rules are different: You’ll want to get rid of the stack, but you’ll still need to place your explosives expertly.
As the game progresses, it gives you more and more chances to express your mental versatility. Most notably, the game gives you objects that you’re not allowed to crush. This adds a fresh element of adventure to the title. If you mess up, you’ll fail the level. And no one likes failure, do they?
Overall, Implode 3D HD provides us with a refreshingly inventive and complex gaming mechanic that holds itself well across the 80 (yes, you saw that correctly) levels that are included here.
Design and Graphics
If you ask us, the look of Implode 3D HD is every bit as fun to look at as it is creative. It’s not derivative, though it does hark back to other cell-shaded wonders like MineCraft. However, that’s about where the comparisons end. We enjoyed the attention to detail that Implode 3D HD carries. Most notably, the backgrounds are infinitely more complex than they could have been—and we enjoy this a whole lot. And, of course, the puzzles themselves are very well defined, adding infinitely to the value of the app’s courses.
At the end of the day, Implode 3D HD is a tremendous value at only two bucks in the App Store. For that money, you’ll get a ton of levels, a mountain of engaging gameplay, and more than enough opportunity to flex some of that gray matter. At the end of the day, this makes the app an easy recommendation for any fan of the puzzler genre, or even for any dedicated iOS gamer.
Implode 3D HD requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
